Hey all, new to the forum! I just bought my first Ram. It’s a 2022 White Ram 1500 Limited Night Edition. Beautiful truck, great features, but I got to say for a $75,000 truck I am very disappointed in the paint job. The truck has about 600 miles on it and already decent size to extremely small rock chips all over the bumper. I added some touch up paint to these areas and when I went to sand down the dried touch up paint I applied I ended up getting down to primer with no effort at all in a few spots where the sand paper happened to extend past the touchup areas. I was extremely surprised. Prior to owning a Ram I had a White Nissan Titan and the paint job was 10x better on a truck that cost 20k less. I don’t think I have ever had a car or truck with a factory coat this thin ever, and I’ve owned quite a few vehicles in the past 10 years. Is this normal? I am having to look at spending 2000 to see about getting these touch ups I did professionally redone and adding a much thicker clear coat to the bumper so that a rock the size of a toothpick tip doesn’t chip paint down to primer. Quite frankly I am concerned on how long this factory paint job is going to last. It must have 1 thin coat of clear coat on it. For 75,000 seems ridiculous to be looking at going to a body shop to add a thick layer of clear coat to the bumper.

Mine was the same way, black. Plus it was very orange peel finish. I had a thread going.
My paint was measured and the thinnest was the bumpers at less than 2 microns as the paint shop told me. The paint was totally different depths/thicknesses all over the truck.
I did get mine corrected by Ram but it was for orange peel not thin paint.
As I was told on here, why not get your bumper 3M clear bra type thingy ( I haven’t, but probably will) Must be cheaper than painting it

Have the front bumper painted & clear coated
Then get 3 M clear bra applied

Then after 4 years or so, peel the 3M off & get it more reapplied

You might consider having it done to the leading edge of the hood & the roofline edge just above the windshield

Those are the 3 spots that took a beating on my 2009 Dodge Ram, i had that truck for 7 years & sold it with 143,000 miles on it
Those 3 areas were so bad that i had an auto body shop do a Blend on the paint to cover it.
I changed the windshield too
I sold it to a middle school Gym Teacher here in town
He still waves when he drives by :)

..they're all very, very thin. Mine has 35k miles on it and the front end looks like it was shot up with birdshot. I don't tailgate..

Yep! I have chips on the side of my truck which is weird. Very thin.

Same on my 2020 Sport Ram - dealer is not going to correct it as they say its caused by "outside influences". I do not drive on dirt or do much highway driving but unfortunately Dodge views it as my issue.

Hi,
My RAM is a 2017 and I agree with your opinion, it seems that paint and clear coat are thin. I just posted a thread asking a similar question about the clear coat.

I have a 2014 Tradesman and the back bumper looks like it was never painted, total rust and has been for several years. I don’t even live in an area where the roads are salted. I live in S.E. Texas. I could understand the front bumper getting chips but why the rear other than thin paint.
