I have done a search on this without results. I had a 2015 JKU and on that vehicle you could "re-learn" the gas pedal by turning the vehicle on, slowly depressing the pedal full travel down and up and then do it once more quickly then turn vehicle off for a couple of minutes. Then start and drive away. I did this twice and it really improved response of acceleration. I was curious if this was an FCA wide thing on their vehicles. Because my 2017 Ram has some lag in pedal response. Thanks...

Hi, not sure if that is possible. Never heard of anyone doing that to a RAM. If you are interested in a throttle response controller we offer the Banks PedalMonster and the Pedal Commander. Message me if you would like a quote or more info.

Never heard of doing that on a Ram either. A throttle controller is the way to go if you just want some more response. There are many brands and many price points. Both the ones Nick mentioned above are good. I personally use a 9 drive from Amazon and I love it.

Never heard of that on a Ram either. That said I also have the 9 Drive which is only $50 and works just like the more expensive brands, well mine doesn’t throw codes like the Pedal Commander did, which I’m extremely happy about. ;)

How long have you had the 9drive? I had a few episodes of the Pedal Commander shi**ing the bed and putting my life at risk. I might try the 9drive.

What life threatning episodes did you have with the PC?

I have the hikeit X9 throttle controller. It has never given me any issues the 4 years I have had it. Originally had it in my 1500 then removed and put into my 2500 and has worked well. They are half the price of the pedal commander and all the same functions except no Bluetooth. Plus they have different models now to choice from.

The 1st time it happened, I've had my Pedal commander from the summer of 2018 with no issues until late October of 2019. I left work, drove a half mile to the liquor store, medicinal purposes only, then got right onto the highway. less than 1000 ft the truck goes into limp mode due to a throttle fault, I was in the left lane on a 3 lane highway with 65 mph limit and most are doing 80 mph & limp mode locked me in 3rd or 4th gear ( can't remember which now) and couldn't go faster than 40mph, almost got hit trying to get to the shoulder, I pulled over, turned off engine & restarted, pulled back out onto road and instantly got the fault. pulled back over, disconnected the pedal commander, restarted and back onto road, no issues getting home but I recall having a CEL light. Code pulled gave something like a throttle overvoltage or out of range, I don't recall since it's been months. I was too busy back then to F with it and didn't want to take a chance of being stranded in freezing cold or 2 ft of snow, which never happened due to warm winter, & have left it off for the winter.

I tried it twice in the following months and had it go into limp mode 2 more times over that period, luckily driving local roads, not highway. Almost got rear ended in those local episodes too.

I won't put it back on.

What you describe is 1 of 3 potential cures to a high idle condition and has been described as a TB reset or a throttle blade reset. Does not appear to affect throttle response

Can't say anything on the throttle enhancers but I do remember my 2003 RAM had that throttle trick. I did it multiple times over the years. It seemed to help but not a huge difference.

Ah that's a bummer. Thanks for the info. We'll see how mine reacts, been almost 1 year for me with the PC and knock on wood, nothing so far.

I had the same thing happen to mine. Now it’s laying under my dash unhooked with no plans on using it

4 years with a PC on my Ram, one year so far on my Charger. Never a problem.
Never used the app, never changed settings while moving or with foot on the gas (main reason people have issues).
Wonder if with those using the app, does it auto-update on the phone and possibly reset the PC while driving?

I never changed while pressing the gas either. Most people have no issues with the PC. 3 times is enough for me to disconnect for good.

I too had a very similar situation with my PC. It was awesome till it was not. I had the throttle perfect at sport -2. Then one day on the freeway limp mode happened almost killing me. Took it of right then and never put it back on. I'm tempted to try the 9drive as I miss the ability to control throttle response.

I tried a 9 drive controller. Used it about a month before going into limp mode, luckily on a backroad. Pulled over and managed to get home ok. Took it out and it’s been sitting in a drawer ever since.

It would be nice if Ram had a few different modes built in like Ford, sport mode etc.

If you will be getting a throttle response unit, one of the ones suggested here that might help with pedal feel and response and help with the issues you are having.

I personally have had the pedal commander in two Ram 1500 classic trucks now with zero issues. People who end up throwing codes likely either tried to change settings on the fly (while moving/driving) or had a defective unit.

Says right in the manual NOT to change settings on the fly, but people think they know better than the designers of the unit for some reason, or ‘my buddy changes his all the time while driving and nothing happened’ and then theirs makes the truck throw a code lol. Adjust while parked or stopped at a light with zero input on the gas pedal and you should be fine with the pedal commander.
