My 2009 TRX4 has lifetime oil changes from the Dealer, they use a synthetic blend. I got tired of driving 20 miles to the dealer and waiting several hours so I decided to do my own. I asked one of the mechanics there why they went to a synthetic blend. He told me it opened up the recommended mileage from 3 to 5k. I then asked him what about pure synthetic and he claimed it was more prone to leaks and not worth the extra money.
Since I've been doing my own I use NAPA's gold synthetic blend and filter every 3500 to 5k miles depending on what I'm doing.

Whatever type of fairy tale I’m told it always boils down to the oil temp achieved during your trips and of course the puny capacity of the oil filter.

You have a great point considering the 5.7 takes nearly 7 quarts! is there anyone out there that makes a larger one that fits? I've started adding MoS2 every third oil change too.

Go to the oil filter thread and you can decide for yourself what larger oil filter you can use. A lot of folks are using Royal Purple 20-820.

Good lord - is the mechanic 80 years old? Synthetics had leak issues when 1st introduced 50 years ago due to seal swelling from too much ester blend to dissolve additives in the POA base oil. That formula was remedied decades ago.

Steer clear of that service dept. I've quit using dealer service. They're terrible.

The only thing I detest is the location of my filter, but I will check out the royal filter recommendation, second to that is the flattened crossover when I changed the pan and trans oil.

This would be acceptable 10+ qts and two stage draining,no crossover pipe View attachment 497025
The Drag Pack cars also use the Turbo 400 "GM" based transmission,so they're a bit differant then a standard Challenger underneath,as you can tell by the floorpan in them, ain't no pass car with that style of floorpan, only the Drag Pack cars have that floorpan / dry sump and exhaust system, lol. Ma Mopar will sell you everything to build a Drag Pack if you have a big wallet, for even more money they'll sell you a complete Drag Pack car,but you might have to be somebody in the drag racing world to qualify for a new one.
$111,000 gets you the cheap version with the Red Eye engine,$171,000 gets you the 354 version that'll run mid 7.00's,you still have to put it together though, lol

101 HP 4x4 5 speed manual trans with solid axles, that gets 40+ mpg's and a well over 400 mile range with a 10 gallon tank, non di, would you be interested? Many guys would say no, I must admit if you HP guy and I think most RF members are, this is not your car, but I'm not a HP guy at all, and I personally might opt for something like this. In the name of "greenness" this car would be the usa wet dream? Nope, can't buy it here, why? Doesn't have USA emission standards. Yes these were a joke back in the 80's, the suzuki samari maybe the reason suzuki left the usa, but things chnage, brands adapt, make progress. The 2022 Jimney, mind you I am a full size suv type pf guy, but at 16 grand starting price I'm sure the masses would rather be in this and get those benefits over the cheap suv market here? Our friend bought a 30k+ lexus SUV I literally cannot fit in, it looks like this one would fit me much better and tops out at 19g's their top model. Guys who are 6'4 know exactly what I am talking about, these small suv's the usa are selling are simply not possible to sit, unless you like having your head pressed into the roof. It seams like the only thing that fly's in the usa is to have more HP and make it di, but if we are talking about mpg's would you rather have a 1.5 liter lil banger or a di for longevity?
If that were available here I would buy one tomorrow. I'd rock that bad boy to work everyday lol

Best I've been able to eek out in my Ram due to the traffic and terrain around here is 17mpg on my way to work. Most of the time its around 15.

What an excellent exhaust layout, complete with X pipe!

I miss the THM 400 in our Pontiac with 400 V8 too. Man, that thing would go.
The V8 cars use a very similiar exhaust system.I think the drag pack cars use a 3 or 3.5" system, while the cars use a 2.5" on the 5.7's and 2.75" on the 6.4's and 6.2's

The guy that has done the last four builds on my vette looks at dry sumps as a waste of space unless you’re a autocross regular,I just dread the 2.5 gallons every oil change After the long tubes ,alky systems and tune the trans wont last long.682517FD-AD02-45A9-8D84-BD7F6BD875A4.jpeg3B479C5E-64B5-45E6-9418-5D0E534745E0.jpeg

Don't the Drag Pak cars come with a "Powerslide"?
I think you might of been able to get a Power glide in the early drag packs, but they've been using a Reid cased 400 for quite awhile now though. The cars weigh too much to utilize a power glide ,the old school weight limit was 2600lbs and lighter use a power glide, above that weight you wanted 3 gears instead of 2.

  • SFI 29.1 certified flexplate
  • Reid racing SFI 4.1 certified transmission case
  • Reid racing SFI 30.1 certified lightweight bell housing
  • Aluminum drums & 300M/4340 input & main shaft
  • 258 mm torque converter
  • CNC-machined billet “Kwik-Shift” shifter with “neutral clean” valve body (P-R-1-2-3-N)
  • Extended dipstick for easy fluid checks
  • ATI Super Starter by Tilton (works with 12-volt/16-volt systems)
  • Lightweight aluminum driveshaft with heavy-duty U-joints

Theory here, this product was used to enhance oil after new cam installs, my guess super concentrated moly no frills. Potentially could be something as effective as redline that you can add to anything, more info needed.

pdf looks promising

SFR 100 has been the flagship of SFR products as the leader in extreme pressure oil fortifiers.

it also has ca or mag or both, mag for sure I do believe.

amazon 144 smokes a gallon, woohoo. But treats over 100 quarts. Would last 15 oil changes, maybe 10 if you uped it a little. Compare that to lubegard.

Because playing chemistry at home without having a clue if you improve or degrade the performance of the oil you add this stuff to is always a good idea...
