@PCA4208 I was under my truck over the weekend and was looking at where you mounted the filter mount. It really doesn't look fun at all to get a wrench/nut up in there, did it fight you much?

Not really, just have to me meticulous about it. I used painters tape to secure the nut to the open end of a regular wrench, fished it into there from the bottom opening and top opening and just took my time. One you have a few threads engage its easy. I attached the remote mount to the bracket first. Definitely don't do that as it gets heavy to put the bracket into place and put the bolts on, I could have used an extra hand for sure.

I simply cannot help myself sometimes...

My kit showed up and I'm happy with my purchase, it's a very complete quality feeling kit. I like the design of the block side adapter for sure. I did think that the filter mount could be blended in a little better, though I'm sure it would not be a restriction at all. I just have to improve things when I see them.

Before and after a quick little massage with a ball endmill.

How much more oil is needed on top of the 7qts with the relocation kit?

Not to poo poo the thread but I have an extended factory warranty and wondering if anyone knows if this setup would have any effect on that? I'm sure it's a solid aftermarket mod but I always look at how the bean counters think.

For any aftermarket item to "void warranty " they would have to find the item at fault to causing the failure such as a collapsed defected hose. Other than that it is a simple design utilizing a stock filter so they can't blame the item unless the previous mentioned occured. I don't see that happening.

To add to this, if someone DOES try to claim it as a "Your DIY mod *****'d the engine", YOU (the person who owns the truck) would need to remember that they will TRY and convince you it is your fault. You need to know the "new" laws about warranty for consumer work. IE they HAVE to PROVE YOUR work was the issue.

Hi @PCA4208 thanks for the write up.

Do you use the larger filters? xg2 RP 20-820? It looks like they would fit just fine, just curious if any hands on experience.

Thanks!

James

There's certainly room to use the filter for non electric steering trucks. I forget the number, but I had one left over from my last Hemi Jeep that I crammed into the stock location, once. It'll definitely fit with this kit, I'll likely do that on my next change.

I'm sure you could get a larger oil filter, possibly add to your capacity by .5 quart or so. I may be adding one on the next oil change but for now I am using a Wix stock replacement size filter.

Sorry i'm referring to the MO399 vs MO599 filter sizes that have been discussed in the Oil filter thread, post 712 on page 72 by @HEMIMANN.

fyi - the Wix filters were discussed as subpar.

I think the bigger spec filters should fit; they're 3.65" OD vs 3"

Right, the filter specd for the Hemi prior to electric steering. My old 08 Jeep Grand took the metric filter in the larger size which can still be used on these later 4th gen Rams but is a real honest pita to deal with.

Just look up the filter of your choice but for, say, a 2011 ram.

I love the quality look this extender has; it seems first class all the way. The only thing that bugs me is that the filter is down low. I know the frame sticks down lower, but still it makes me scratch my head a little bit and wonder if there is an alternate location where it could go. I think I will crawl around under the hood later today when Mr. Evil Sun takes a break.

Pictures don't do it much justice. The bumper on the truck is much lower than the filter. The kit is made to bolt to that frame horn piece. I'm sure you could mount it up higher if you're that worried. For me its perfect, mostly because I didn't have to go drilling holes in the frame.

I had that concern as well, but like you said, the pics don't show with any reference to "bumper" clearance, or even like the diff's/sways/axles/whatever... (had a brain fart half way through trying to think of what might be lower that we just don't see.)

from the product description, "A remote oil filter is most beneficial for those who have twin turbos..."

I had an oil change due and remembered the nightmare from last time of trying to wrangle the oil filter in and out without a huge mess. I read a few posts about making your own kit, making your own lines or using basic rubber hose. I did not want to use cheap rubber hose and did not want to bother making my own AN lines.

I found the Pac-Brake kit, which included all the adapters, fittings, and lines. The feature I like best is that the adapter has the same M22x1.5 oil filter threads so that me or anyone can mindlessly buy an oil filter for the truck and it will fit. Bought the kit from DDP Motorsports, free shipping and lowest price online. PacBrake - Remote Oil Filter Kit

The Kit:
Everything is billet aluminum and high quality SAE Hydraulic hoses, and includes great instructions.

The install:
Started as a normal oil change, drain as usual, I tossed on a FUMOTO oil valve as well to make things extra easy in the future. (no pictures of this, use your imagination)
Remote mount attaches to a bracket the bolts to the odd "post" on the front of the frame. Mounting this took some trickery, I used tape to secure a nut to a wrench then fished it inside the box from the bottom opening and top opening.

The sandwich plate and fittings took some effort to install, but not the worst job ever. I was lucky to have a large 1-1/4" wrench to tighten down the plate very well. I suppose a good adjustable wrench would work too.
Hoses went right on, they are heavy duty and stiff so it took some wrangling.
View attachment 493413

Attaching to the remote mount was easy also, simple connection, just tighten some fittings.

View attachment 493414

Whole process start to finish took me maybe 1.5 hours.

All completed I am extremely happy with this kit. The stock type oil filter screws on easily and it is still up and out of reach, anything will hit the frame box before hitting the oil filter, but is still in a great spot where I wont have to jack up the truck to change my oil anymore. For that reason alone it is completely worth the cost to me.
I put this on my 2020 Classic and the smartest thing I’ve added so far.

I was fired up about this kit until I crawled under my Gen5 to change the oil for the first time. The engineers at FCA must not hate techs as much as they used to, as there is so much room, I can't talk myself into spending the money now.
