Recently went on a long trip for vacation. Had a couple instances where AC would stop blowing with much force, but it sounded like blower was still on. Air in vents was cold, just not blowing. Is this some kind of blend or actuator issue? I was able to correct once by shutting off truck for a few minutes. The second time it happened, I turned it off, then to heat and back to cold a couple times. Truck is a 2015 3500 with dual zone AC. Had the driver and passenger side climates synced.

It could be. I have another vehicle where every once in a while the controller 'seems' to get confused and get between modes. Does something like your truck did. Rotating the dial to 'heat', waiting for the air to blow down at the floor, then rotating it back to 'vent' seems to correct it. That's in my other vehicle, not a RAM.

If you have a good scanner, or know someone who does (or go to Autozone/OReilly's for a free scan), see if they can pull the HVAC codes. If there was a fault in a blend door actuator or a controller, it should have stored it as a code, which you can use to help determine your next course of action.

When the system is low on refrigerant that can cause the evap to ice up and block the air flow, next time that happens shut off the compressor for about 10 min then restart it and see if cold air comes out, if so you are likely low on refrigerant and need to find a leak.

i have the same problem.....frankly i just think the ac is not that great. another poster suggested using a high pressure hose on the evaporator? in front of the rad. I did this and it improved somewhat.......be careful not to get your alternator or fuses wet. I followed another posters advice and got my ac recharged which helped somewhat but from my perspective its still lacklustre .....good luck

Sounds like a blend door actuator getting stuck my truck did this wasn't getting much air out vents sometimes. Have someone with a good scanner scan the truck it should come up with a code for blend door if its the problem

Hooked up AlphaOBD and couldn't find any faults at all. So I do not believe my blend door has faulted.

I noticed my a/c power cut down considerably when I put a cabin air filter in. I had thought my truck being a '16 didn't have the door cutout to put in a filter, but ended up finding it did, but never had a filter in there. I put one in, and much less a/c blowing, so have to turn it up higher than I used to in order to get the same level of air.

That is not my issue in this case. I do have a filter, but AC will randomly (seemingly on long trips) stop blowing until I shutdown truck and / or switch it off and on a few times.

This could potentially be my issue based on what I'm experiencing.

A low freon issue won't cause it to stop blowing, it'll just blow warm when the compressor shuts off due to low pressure.

As a trained AC repair person, I would have the system charge checked, and if low, find the leak. When they get low on refrigerant, the compressor runs too long and the evaporator never gets a chance to melt the ice build up caused by condensation. It is imperative that it cycles on and off.

Low on gas can cause icing up due to it runs lower suction pressure thus running a colder evap. the only way to know for sure is to put a set of gauges on the system and see what is going on.

OP stated that restarting it made it work for a while so freezing is likely not the issue.

maybe your explaining it wrong, or your new to the field but that's not what's happening.
Any AC system should be able to run 24/7 without issue, no cycling needed to melt the ice. MRFREEZE57 know what's causes the icing.

Both of my rams do this on occasion. I recently noticed that when it happens, my edge insight shows my voltage drops from 14 to 13.5. It'll last a few seconds then resume blowing at full force. I've never worried about it as both my Cummins and my hemi do it.

I know what happened one time to me & my Ram
I had not noticed that a part of a plastic bag was partially blocking the Fan intake.

Another thing that i have noticed,
the Cabin Air Filter does block the air flow into the unit & i have to turn up the fan speed.

BUT without that filter, dirt or more likely dust gets inside of the the condenser box & if left alone the condenser fins get blocked & you have to pull the whole HVAC box, to replace it
