Looking for info on alternative transmission fluid for Mopar ATF-4. I have had difficulty tracking some down at a reasonable price. Is there a safe alternative?

Thank you.

If you’re sure it takes ATF+4 then any atf meeting that spec will do fine. I used Valvoline ATF+4 with no issues when my last Ram needed a tranny fluid change.

Now, if you’re needing the ZF fluid for the 8 speed…..a whole different world.

Thank you for your responses. I was pretty sure that any ATF+4 would be acceptable. My transmission is a six speed. Mopar ATE+4 became difficult to find at a decent price. Does anyone use a blend or a straight synthetic?

I've bought this in the past. Moving to Red Line C+ ATF

I hear Castrol ATF +4 TransMax is quality fluid and recommended on this forum. RL C+ is a lot more expensive. Doubt that it is equally better than others.

How often do you change ATF oil? Who cares if 6 or 7 quarts cost more when you only change once every 4 years? Engine oil is a different matter.

I see what you're saying, but I am not sure if RL C+ is that much better, if at all. I can't find enough evidence to believe that. When it comes to engine oil, I am convinced that RL is top of line.

Plenty of evidence in the Synthetic Oil Thread. You'd need to do the research. I wouldn't be using Red Line if the Hemi and the RFE transmissions weren't marginally designed.

Thank you again for everyone’s information. I will look into this RL-C+.
