I have a ram 1500 5.7 Hemi and just ordered a Mopar CAI, Diablo Sport Itunei2 and a MBRP stainless steel 2.5 exhaust. How much power can I expect to net? Also any other mods that might be useful. I hear increasing throttle bodies diameter is virtually useless.

Not much.
My '14 RCSB 4x4 has stainless works headers, 16" magnaflow muffler, non mds lifters, comp cams 216/222 cam, CAI and dyno tuned, and only gained 62hp at the wheels.

only 62 at the wheels but i bet you gained loads of useable torque all through the power band!

I'd also recommend a throttle commander and a TrueTrac rear diff if you don't already have a LSD...you will want all that extra power hooking up good

What are the transmissions good until?
The last 2 digits of the 8HP70 stand for it's newton/meter rating. 8HP70=700nm=516 lb-ft at the crank, not tire .That's it's constant torque rating, they'll handle a fair bit more for short periods of time,if you don't mess with the torque management.Torque is what kills a transmission, horsepower not so much

What are you doing for a PCM.You have to either have your stock PCM unlocked,or buy one already unlocked before you'll be able to tune it. As long as you're not counting on a big power gain from those mods, you won't be disappointed.

I bought a unlocked pcm and shipped it to Diablo to get it re vinned

Where do I get a custom tune?
If you'd sprung for HP you'd have alot better selection of tuners,as there's not many tuners still using Diablo's crappy cmr program anymore. Sean Powell of Hemifever is about you're only choice in the truck world still using Diablo,Jay Greene isn't really taking on many new customers these days. The other downside is ,you had Diablo unlock your PCM,they're supposedly locking their unlocked PCM's so you're stuck with their tuning.Live and learn, lol

That's pretty sneaky!

First, return the CAI. The only place they make a hp gain is on a dyno with the hood up and a fan blowing into the front of the truck. The moment you close the hood, it becomes a HAI. Hot air intake, because it pulls air from the engine compartment and not the fender well like the factory system. Dodge would not leave HP on the table from an air intake system.

Second, be careful with a custom tune. Yes, you can get a little hp out of it. Maybe 10 to 15 percent increase. But, they get it from the timing and air/fuel ratio mix. Many if not most of them make your car run rich, which is where you get the seat of your pants kick when you floor it. The down side, the mix is no longer optimal for cruising in exchange for the kick when you floor it. Gas millage will suffer greatly. Some of them will also turn off DOD and VVT which will also significantly hurt millage while cruising. So your 30 to 40 hp gain will turn your 15mpg truck into a 10mpg truck for a kick when you floor it.

Third, an exhaust system will get you FREE hp and cost you nothing anywhere else. But maintenance. If you are ok with that, this is where you will get a hp bump and not hurt anything else. Most of those gains will not come from the headers or pipes. It will come from getting rid of the cats and a better flowing muffler. You are not going to see a big bump from the headers themselves unless you increase exhaust flow significantly. IE a modified engine. So if you are leaving the engine itself stock, get rid of the cats and put duel exhaust and free flow mufflers on it for the same gain and less cost.

The down side to headers. 1- dissimilar metal expansion going from cast iron on aluminum to stainless steel on aluminum. Use lock tight on the header bolts and even then you will probably need to retighten the bolts after you get it hot a few times. 2. Headers reduce the clearance between the exhaust and the starter motor. And they do not have any heat shields. They are going to cook your spark plug wires, your starter solenoid and the starter unless you do something about them. They are also thinner walled creating MORE heat in the engine compartment for your cool looking CAI. They are going to cook any rubber or plastic near them unless you do something. So wrap them if you are going to use them.

You will gain nothing by spending money on a depreciating asset. If it ain't OEM it's a deduct at time of trade. If selling it outright, you gotta find somebody that likes that stuff. And your asking price will suffer as your truck stuff gives the impression that it's been rode hard and probably has hidden problems.
After 35 years in the retail automobile business, I've never seen this kind of thing bear any fruit except maybe a transmission failure or engine knock.

Vararam, long tubes, hemifever tune, efan swap. Ported throttle body dynoed at 360 hp 390tq

6 months of having a cammed fbo srt 6.4 Hemi in the ram the stock tranny is doing great. I think the tuners have figured out quite a bit on these 8 speeds the last few years from what they are saying.
