I run long trips steady and generally use around 12.4-13L per 100km on 89 octane and around 13-13.8L per 100 on regular depending on my average speed and winter/summer fuel and weather. Around town I prefer not to look.

I always go to Fuelly to get estimates of "average". Here is a snap shot of 18-19 with 4.5 million miles of hand calculated mpg you are looking at 14.9... This is filtered to 5.7 hemi crew cab only.

I find a lot of the claims I see on forums etc (in general) to be exaggerated..... or victims of poor math skills.

There are at least 200 gas mileage threads on here, over 50 in the last 12 months. How about you read through those first then come back and ask specific questions.

my son is thinking about buying a 2018 Dodge ram with a 5.7 hemi . Honestly what gas milage can he expect
Like ELVIRA, post # 2 said, way too many variables. 2WD, 4 WD, Stock Tires, Better Tires, Mudder tires, Trim Level, and and, and where be driven, roads, speeds, hills, what rear end, OMG. Just for giggles:

I have a 2019, 5th Gen DT truck.4 X 4, 3:21 rear. 5.7L, no E-Torque. The 2018 are all DS 4th Gen trucks. My Town mileage 13-18 ish. Highway: 15-20 ish. But depends if I am chugging along at 60 mph or 80 on IH 35, and traffic, and heat, and and. Just a saying.

My personal experience in the answer, but I also stay with Cruise on Highway depending upon where I am at, all environmental and roadways and traffic.

The advertised "sticker" gas mileage is a good rule of thumb. Some will get better, most get worse.
I drive my '14 Hemi RAM fairly easy and have gotten mid 20s on trips. The worst I ever got was 12 MPG and that was towing a heavy trailer from Florida about 800 miles trip running 70 mph.
I've found that most people that complain about poor mileage from their Hemi RAM has to do with 2 factors (assuming the Truck is in good running condition); They have it modified, lifted, big tires, etc OR they drive it like they stole it. The ones that are in both categories well, forgetaboutit.

What you are probably seeing is people who believe the meter in the truck. Mine says I average ~18, but hand calc says more like 16. (about 50/50 highway/city.) I don't see a significant difference between the cheap **** Shell gas, and the mid grade (T-Mobile Tuesday/Shell Fuel Perks $0.25/gallon savings...)

I ran for about 55k on the cheap ****, just swapped back to "mid grade", and have enough tanks under my axles now to believe the ECU has "compensated". I'm up around 67k now. Effectively still stock (LED's everywhere, Delam "mod", Catch Can, Mopar replacement front Rebel passenger fascia). I did plugs at Firestone at ~60k. I was told by an old MOPAR guy (like 60's) to keep an eye out around 50-60k for a sudden drop in MPG. Confused "wife" with "dead plugs"...

EDIT: I still have TOYO Open Country AT-3's (I ordered the wrong tire, should have been the 2's for the '18 Rebel) on the truck. So technically I have "big" tires. The full size spare looks ridiculous compared to the Rebel tires.

If he stays out the loud pedal, expect mid upper teens. It’s thirsty.

I just drove my 2013 Ram 5.7, 8-speed from Cottage Grove, Oregon To Redding, California (304 miles) with varying terrain.

I unusually drive 5 MPH over the limit to avoid the truckers. I got 17 MPG according to the computer. I'm using 85 Octane, 5-30 Amsoil with Purolator BOSS Filter. My tires are Cooper Discovery Maxx LT-275-65-R20 which I believe is an All-Terrain tire but these will need replacing in about six months. I have a canopy so no Tail Gate drag.

I think it would be a little better on long straight stretches.

Hope this helps!

Walt

I have a 2019 Classic quad cab with a cap, 5.7L engine & 3.92 gears. I run 87 octane gas. I rarely go over 65MPH. I usually set my cruise at 62MPH, park myself in the right lane and watch everyone pass me. My EVIC says my average is 20.4 mixed highway/city. Straight highway miles, my average goes to 22MPG. I have never bothered to see how the EVIC average compares to hand calculating it. When I tow I drop to 16'ish.

My 17 1500 Hemi with 3.23 gears gets 22 doing 70, can't complain.

My 16 bighorn quad cab 4x4 20 inch wheels, 4x4 , 3:92 gets a little over 18 mpg in local rural driving . Includes some good size hills.
I expect to hit 21 mpg on hwy trips.
