You say 'gearbox' ....Just to clarify, is it a manual transmission, or automatic?

Hi, made clarification above and edited my question. It's an automatic. Anyway does exist manual transmission at all also for RAMs? I did not know.
I make a safety engine oil change at 68'000km nearly 41000miles next week, just purchased the truck few weeks ago and I'm not shure when was the last inspection in general. Have no documents about it. So maybe would be smart to care about everything else too. Maybe schuld also replace spark plugs? It's running well but want give him/her what he/she need. What is correct in english? In hungarian vehicles are neutral, "it". In german feminin.
Planing to keep the truck for a long time.
Regards from Hungary

Hi, made correction/editing of my question. It's an automatic.
That still doesn't really answer the question,as they've used a couple differant automatic transmissions in the trucks, the 5/6 speed RFE's and the ZF's 8HP70 8 speed. If Hungary is anything like Canada you could have either transmission, but i'm guessing you'll have the 8 speed,if so ZF reconmends doing a transmission service on them between 80,000 and 130,000 kilometers or 8 years which ever comes first.I'm not going to reconmend fluid, that's your decision to make, but here's the procedure for checking the fluid level after you've changed the pan and filter.

Yes it's the 8 speed ZF. Anyway this Rebel ran first in Canada and been imported to Hungary a year ago. And it's not an excident car as usually many from the US.
Thanks for advice, so I have time till 80,000 km. We will check...

On your truck gender, as you probably know, english doesn't really use gender's, but still, people 'can' use genders. I think more guys would refer to their truck as "it", or her/she.

However, ...not to confuse you, but if a male owner gave his truck a pet name, which a lot of owners do, more than likely it would be on the masculine side, like: Old Blue, The Gray Ghost, The Big Red Dog, Ole Red, The General, TRex, Night Stalker, ...even Rebel ...to me signifies masculine. A truck is supposed to be tough and strong. I can't imagine a guy calling his truck, Princess Of The Swamp! or The Sweet Lady ...LOL.

Now, if the truck was a lady-owned pickup she might give it a feminine name.

But if you're referring to something about your truck guys will use 'it'. But a lot of guys will say 'her' also; "I'm going to give it/her all new fluids." "I am going to buy a new bed cover for it/her". "She's/it's got a few dents." "It was a difficult trail but she/it got me out of the woods in one piece."

I never hear guys say, "I'm going to give him new oil and fluids." or, "It's about time to buy him new tires." He's got a few dents. Personally I would avoid using He in those cases. That would be wierd for a guy to say that. But an owner might say, "I've got to change oil in 'old Blue' this weekend" (or whatever pet name an owner might have given his truck (if he had a pet name for it)).

These are generalities based on what I've heard over the years. Maybe there's an English teacher here who can shed more light on the specific 'Rules' .... :D

Well, my trucks name is mosses, moz for short, so I break every rule in the book on that 1. But i don't care because mosses can split the red sea and so can my ram, so for all my micro aggressions I suggest snowflakes write it down in triplicate and file it.

As for fluid, 60k miles is a good call. Especially your 8 speed which has pre heated fluids. The hotter the fluid the shorter the life, and your zf fluid operates at least 30f higher then my rfe. Now, what fluid should you use? You zf fluid is a scam, over priced cheap fluid, stat sheets prove it. However, the real pao fluids are sometimes too slippery in your trans. So, the best move is to get a replacement pan/filter and maxlife multi vehicle atf and follow the procedure rick aka @Wild one posted for you.

:waytogo: Love it!!

Pretty much goes along with what I was saying above: If guys give their truck a name, it's almost always toward the 'masculine'. Of course there could be some feminine names out there (e.g. Henrietta), but I rarely hear them.

Mom called all her cars betsy, I don't judge. In those days we werent sure we would make it up a hill, so she literally would be moving back and forth in her seat saying come on betsy.

LOL all of mine are Betsy too - though it isn't car specific.
I don't have a name for actual vehicles themselves, Betsy is just a dependable essence that rides around with me hahaha.

Then a 4 door nova. Those were the three cars I grew up in, by far the nova was the best one. sorry for the side track op.

I think the trans fluid & filter should be changed every 5 years or 60,000 miles, being many of these newer trans run hot, that heat kills your trans fluid...

Hi Jeepwalker, it is an excellent statement and explanation, more I expected.
I only asked because in the german language we use female gender for our Indian Motorcycles, we say "She is my Indian Chief Dark Horse". (sounds funny) It was ridiculous to me first in view of the fact that the hungarian language do not make differences of gender gramatically. We separate only humans from objects etc. Sometime we personificate pets even thoug not es he or she. I appreciate all other comments too in this case.
OK I just call my RAM "Rebel" because we are kindres souls.
All that did not fit really to this gearbox thread (sorry moderators), but I enjoyed this brainstorming very much.
Day by day it's more and more fun to be part of this forum for me. :)

One more thing ...just to help you out (please don't take this as a personal criticism...your english is very good): a "Gearbox" in the U.S. car world pretty much implies a manual transmission. Very few would refer to an automatic transmission as a 'gearbox' (which is why the original statement had to be clarified). Better to not use the word gearbox (except for slang purposes), and just say Transmission, Automatic Transmission or manual transmission ....or Tranny (short slang word), or Slush-box (another less-used slang word for A/T).

Of course people do sometimes say gearbox, but that's more a slang term ..and almost always applied to a manual transmission. If it's a piece of farm machinery like a grain elevator which has a literal simple gear box (metal box with, say, 2 speeds), then, yeah, people usually call those a gearbox. Because it's just what it is, a box with gears. Sometimes, as I mentioned, you might read or hear 'slush-box', a slang term referring to an automatic transmission. You might read that in a magazine where they needed a second or third different word describing an owners automatic transmission, or they wanted to keep the article informal.

If your truck is a 4x4, the unit behind the transmission is the 'transfer case'. i.e. ...some of the rotational force is 'transferred' to the front wheels.

Again, I know you're not a native English speaker (my wife isn't either). I only offer the above to help you with your English automotive terms. How about posting a picture of it? Cheers! (BTW I've been around Hungary ..many times, beautiful place)

About 80-90% I understand what is written and what it is all about, but of course sometimes need some help of a dictionary to see clear. I speak german just my mothertongue, it helps me to built english sentetces, because hungarian is much much different.

My wife also english is her second language. 20 years married to me and it is still very hard for her. English sentence structure is very difficult to get as a second language.

Most Americans can’t speak (or write) English properly either. I know this because I live here and I resemble this remark, man.
