At cruise speed the eco kicks in and drops to 4 cylinders. Is it normal to feel a drag or sluggish feeling seeming like I’m only running on 3 cylinders? New block, plugs, cam position sensor, timing chain….I need help!!! Thank you

Drive in tow haul and manual mode and see if this still happens in both, report back.

My 2012 is really seamless when it goes into Eco mode. Like you can't even tell as it goes in and comes out. On flat ground when I go to accelerate it's smooth, but more like I'm waiting for it to 'kick down' to a lower gear ....that kind of slugishness. Does your truck shutter or shake? One complaint among a lot of older Ram owners was that the tranny gearing and shifting wasn't very good compared to the 8-speed tranny. I experience that, mostly when mine comes out of eco going up a mild hill.

I guess the place to start would be to scan for engine codes and operational anomolies. You've probably already done that. But just to throw it out there ....There can be 'soft codes' like certain misfires which may not set a 'check engine' light, but can still be present. It would be helpful to know what they might be, if any are present.

Then, the next thing if you really want to get to the bottom of it would be to spend a couple hours and perform good basic troubleshooting: Put on a vacuum gauge, what are the readings? Are there vacuum leaks?. Perform a compression test -- for example, I have a non Ram truck which I discovered after doing a compression test has one low compression cylinder (probably a burnt valve). I get some misfires, but the misfire count is below the threshold of setting a CEL. Then ....are any of the ignition coils weak, sporadic or faulty? (ohm them out or swap a new one around). Is the PCV hose cracked ....or valve shot? Are the body/engine grounds in good shape? Are all the spark plugs in good condition. I've installed new plugs before and had a 'bad' one. It's rare but a cracked porcelean could do it. Are the boots cracked on any of the coil/plug sections? Injectors not spraying well, or cracked O-rings? Any water in the fuel? What does the temp sensor read (warm and cold)? A 'drifted' temperature sensor could 'spoof' the TIPM into thinking the ambient (or engine) temps aren't what they actually are. Then the fuel/air can be off. And that can cause a weak operation. Same with a weak O2. A plugged cat could affect things.

The above is kind of a catch-all list of possibilities. They're the kind of things that could cause your truck to labor when it goes into Eco mode. It sounds like you've done a lot, but there might be something you overlooked. I do it all the time...

@Burla…still the same results in both modes. It was doing this before timing chain broke and the motor had to be replaced last month. But since the new motor I still get that same sluggish feeling in ECO mode. So I wonder if it’s an electrical issue with the ECO…
@Jeepwalker…I will definitely look into all of these possibilities, could be that I may have missed or overlooked something simple..thanks…
