I’ve had two brand new F350s this year. Sold both due to poor quality. My brand new snowmobile self destructed 1/4 mile into my first ride. Quality is in the toilet right now with all manufacturers. Thankfully I hadn’t sold my old truck yet. Just going to keep on driving that.
Only good part is I that made money on all three lemons I bought this year.

Anyone wanna chime in and let a fella know if the 5th gen has done away with these problems, i have a '16, was gonna get another classic but if the new style has less issues id consider putting more money down. I love these trucks and i think i was in kind of denial about what I've done to it because most of it was warranty until i started thinking about how many things ive fixed. Wheel bearings, manifold bolts, anything fromt end really, rear shocks died early, not to mention the wind whistle thats been there since new.

I'm 2.5 years into by 2020 new style Longhorn (not classic) and zero problems so far. At least real problems, tiny little annoyances but nothing major requiring a dealer shop visit. JD Powers did mark the RAM as the best quality for a while, for all vehicles, not just trucks, only moved down due to the 12" radio being a bit of a problem.

This is my 5th truck overall in my lifetime (so far...) and the only one that has had zero issues in the first 2 years.

I guess it all goes to the YMMV thing.

Keep in mind modern vehicles are very complex devices. I.E. the more cogs you have the more likely the machine will break kind of thing. Toyota gained a quality thing many years ago, but that was on a truck that was dirt simple. So, to me it was a "no duh" kind of thing. They are not quite so good on quality any more, but you can't tell that to a Toyota nut. Nobody is simple any more. So while quality is actually extremely high overall right now, the occurrence of low issues are not going to happen due to complexity.

My 2014 has 182,000 miles on it. 110,000 new brakes and rotors.
170,000 replaced water pump and serpentine belt and thermostat because was already there.
181,000 replaced temperature sensor as it was leaking.
On the third set of tires.
No interest in trading this one off. It’s a keeper. Thinking of taking it in to have the exterior places where people dragging trailers around at Home Depot decided it wasn’t that big of a deal to let it slide across my fenders a flares.

They are all broken and junk because the guy on the interwebs....who bought number xx of 100K manufactured...had a problem. But don't worry because interwebs guy is going back to "BRAND Y" which he NEVER had issues with....So....There. I guess BRAND Y guy forgot to look around the back of the dealership, because there you will find the service department, established because THIER SHIZIT BREAKS, TOO. I trade my trucks every 2 years and have been doing so since 1994. I've owned them all. Many were great, some were junk, timeframes had no bearing on that nor did brand. I've proudly owned a POS from every brand...They all produce a few.

I tell anyone, regardless what brand they own, that simply switching brands does NOT solve issues. You simply trade on set of issues for another set of issues. No truck is perfect, and never will be. RAM makes a DANG GOOD truck for a price generally below the competition. Yes there will be issues with any brand but simply fix 'em and go on.
I gave the same advice to my daughter when she married her second husband....so far so good. .

Yup poor quality. I Am going on two years and doubt i will own it a third year. I have had more issues with this truck than any other vehicle I have ever owned and I have been buying new vehicles since the 70's. I had 4 new wranglers from 2012 thru 2018 and those were supposed to be troublesome lol. most of complaints tho have been with the dealer service department. I don't mind so much that there are issues what bugs me is that they don't seem interested in taking care of them.
Just curious, if the 4 new Wranglers were supposed to be troublesome, why did you keep getting them?

MY 19, was 1st year out DT ride, bought Aug 2018, Apr 2018 build. 3 Recalls done. My biggest complaint, and I had the TSB done, really bad redesign poor performing AC. But as long can go out, "push" button, engine go Vroom, AC work, Heat work, Radio work, go Point A,B,A, can't be all bad, LOL.

Hey All,

I just rolled over my first year with my 21 1500 Classic SLT 4x4 Crew Cab. It has 317 Engine hours and 7,542 Km. I obviously don't drive a whole lot. I have experienced more issues with this Truck then any other vehicle and want to see if this if normal for the Truck or should I be worried. To be clear I love my Truck I am just worried about the problems:

Tailgate would not close due to improper assembly. Replaced Bushing.
Center Console Broke and needed to be replaced. Apparently Assembly issue.
Front Bumper assembled incorrectly. Causing damage between upper and lower bumpers. Awaiting approval for fix from Chrysler.
Exhaust manifold bolt broken. Covered under warranty.

Appreciate any input!
I work in the industry and those are poor quality issues. Yes they happen. It’s sucks when it happens to you. I’m having issues with my brand new ram and have had them right out of the gate. Paint tape on inside of tailgate was lifting. If I had not checked it I would of had rust after first winter. I knew to check for those issues on hood and doors also. My transmission has been flashed about 4 times now for the issues of delayed engagement from reverse to drive. 4 second delays. I went to a professional transmission shop who is world renowned in my area and as soon as they referred them to the dealership I got the royal treatment right away. So now I’m just waiting for a new valve body to come in. If that doesn’t work it’s a brand new transmission. I think it wanted to be in a brand new transmission. The truck drives amazing it’s just from reverse to drive. If you put your foot on the Excelerator too soon it’s like letting out a clutch while putting your foot on the gas netting kicks in. I’ve driven other rims the same year and a year older and it engages right away. I’ve also had a few payment issues but those were corrected no big deal. And I’m also monitoring the clicking noise behind the dash which I know it’s the blend door making the noise. That’ll have to get fixed eventually because I fix is expensive. Other than that I love the truck. Oh and not to mention I’ve had three flashes on the entertainment system/Sirius/CarPlay. And I also had a brake squeal in less than 300 km on it but turned out to be in an adjustment and new pads. And I have 11,000 km on it all highway and it’s about 4 1/2 months old.

I love wranglers and I never had any trouble with them (well I guess I did have some minor issues with my 2014 but all covered under warranty and nothing major) my point was people often think Jeep wranglers are troublesome but I did not have that experience.

I just turned 121k.

I get it that it sucks having to dish out $$$ on something you just bought, but in the big picture…… that’s not too bad, of course I’m guessing you didn’t drop $40k + on the purchase.

For what it’s worth and a comparison…… if your going to purchase a BMW 3 or 5 series (2000-2015 at least) It WILL need to have the radiator replaced and associated components ( may as well, as there all right there anyways) If you keep it between 75,000- 110,000 miles. Cost….. 3 series @ $1500 / 5 series @ $1800. This is just a gouge, M cars more $$$$. If you DO NOT do this, and it fails while driving….. your looking at an easy $3500 to start. And then you still have to do it anyways.

Whats my point?

This is not to scare of keep anyone away from purchasing one ( I’ve got several and always adding to the collection) but as an “informed” buyer, it does come into play if it has or not been completed as to my actual cost…… as so does your Ram.

These are great trucks, and taken care of can keep running for a long time with proper maintenance and care.

The only way around this is to Lease every year and turn it in….. but that’s not even a guarantee :waytogo:

545rfe? No tick yet? Any mods?

Nope….. no tick, but then again…. I do have the 4.7 which missed that time bomb.

My mods can be seen under TOTM where most are listed that I’ve done :waytogo:

Super OCD about preventative maintenance too.

Agreed. My plant truck is an old Toyota (I don't know about the new Tundra version). That truck has 100K miles and the engine and drive train seems flawless. Everything else is falling apart. Electronic gremlins, A/C, starter issues, it goes on and on. The same issues would cause some RAM critics to scream, but for some reason the Toyota gets a pass. Perception is not necessarily reality. The Toyota Tundra really is a fine truck but its very flawed, too. Just like ANY other brand.
