I recently bought a used 26’ 5th wheel for the family and am going around in my head about which mounting system to use with the hitch. Should I get the RAM 5th wheel hitch prep kit or go with the Curt brackets and rails? Either way I’ll probably be installing it myself since it’ll take almost 2 weeks for a shop to schedule it.

2016 2500 CC Laramie 4x4 6.4L. Trailer is 8500 GVWR. Almost the trucks limit, but I’ve towed a couple 30’ TT with close to that before.

Also, debating between a Curt A16 or B&W Patriot for the hitch. Would appreciate feedback for those.

Thanks!

I have had both over the years. Both worked just fine for me with my 12k fiver. Both in my opinion accomplish the same thing, that is to connect the frame to the hitch. I would think as a DIY project, the rail system would be the easiest to install. The only thing I see as an advantage of the puck system is the bed looks a lot cleaner with the hitch removed. Dont know that I have heard anything bad about either of the fifth wheel hitches you mentioned. I have a CURT Q20, and have used it with my last three fifth wheels w/o any issues. Downsides are its heavy and pretty much requires two men to remove.

There's also the B&W Companion which mounts to their gooseneck hitch. Only one hole in the bed and no permanent rails to deal with. It's available as a slider if you have a 6.4' bed.

I have the rail system. I took a horse stall mats cut it 3 and lined the bed with them. Even that small they are not flying out the bed. (tested to 103 haha)
