2018 2500 6.4 4x4 club cab short bed Tradesman. Equipped with Snow Chief package (kinda weird for VA but whatever) Stone cold stock still using the Trans force 18" tires and 30K miles. Great truck so far but the unloaded ride is pretty jarring on any kind of non highway driving. Dropped air pressure to 55 front 65 rear with not much improvement. Any thoughts on improving the ride? The Firestones have decent tread left but I figure next year they will need to be replaced. Maybe a Michelin or something would be better? I know its a work truck and mostly that's what I use it for. Hauling junk and towing trailers in the 6-9k range but its starting to haul the family some more as our other ride is getting up there in miles and I can't swing another payment in these crazy times....

Why so much in the rear are you towing frequently or every day if not put the front & rear down to 45-50 when not towing, air up when you haul, btw what's the door jamb list for unloaded tire pressure for front & rear?

Yes the Michelin’s would be a much better tire than the transforce. Also drop your air pressure down in the upper 40’s to 50psi. It should make a difference. Just air up when ready to haul heavy

When I had a 2500 I put 35 in the front and 38-40 in the rear. The tpms light stays on but I didn’t care. The 2500 rides a bit rough and any 10 ply tire won’t help. It’s built to tow big loads. I swapped the rear shocks for Rancho adjustable with 9 settings and kept them on “1” unless I was towing. You can get softer springs, put on 1/2 ton tires but then it’s not able to tow as designed. Good luck

I run 63 front 50 rear on a long bed 3500 6.7. Tire pressure is key. I would run the tire caulk test to see where you need to be empty. I did thuren front springs, active swaybar and shocks. It made it feel like a whole different truck.

on my old 2500 i deleted the tpms on one set of d rated tires/rims for daily driving during the winter and aired down to around 40 psi if i remember correct.in the spring i put the truck camper on and my f rated ridge grapplers/chrome rims went back on till the fall.my truck had supersprings,1 ton coils and air bags.it was a kidney buster without super soft tires with very low tire pressure.there'd no reason other than $$ why you need just one set of tires.

When my truck still had the Firestone tires I would go with 50 front and 45 rear for daily driving. Ride was decent for a 2500 Cummins.
But then again it's a truck so that's what I expect.

Lowered the pressures to 45/55 and it does improve. I'm going to do the chalk test when it quits raining.....

You'll need to modify your warning thresholds - PCM update in 2018 set warning on the rear tires <70 psi. I suppose the corporate lawyers forced this so dummies running 12k loads can't forget to air their rear tires, then sue the company when they blow out.

Today I put my rear tires down to 50 psi in my 2500, no warning lite nor any other type of notice...

Must not have gone in and did all the software recalls. That's how they did this. If I'd have known they added this to an unrelated software recall, I woudn't have done it.

I had the one recall done abs or what ever it was 3-4 weeks ago, btw it was the dealer who I had air down the tires when they rotated them and installed my 5w40 oil & filter, no way was I going to be the one who took off that Cummins factory oil filter that was put on by Godzilla ;)

You're fortunate - I crabbed at the Dealer about the forced low air pressure warning and they would not relent. Scared of lawsuits by idiots.

Too late now to go back in with a custom tune to get rid of it. I run 65 / 75 psi and it's tolerable. Without the 5 link coil suspension on the rear it would not be tolerable.

They call for 60 psi in all 4, I found 55 rear to be better and now trying 50 psi..

On your truck data plate (on 'B' pillar driver door side)? Mine says 65 front, 80 rear.

That's what my 18 2500 says also, 65/80. Mine rides very well unloaded, even when tire pressure is 65/80. Michelin LTX's help but I give most of the credit to the factory air suspension.

Those numbers are for what your tires should be loaded or towing. If you keep your tires at that pressure all the time you find the center of your tire wearing quicker than the outside. Especially the rear. Unless I’m towing extremely heavy I still don’t put mine at max inflation. If you put 80psi in the rear then that will become more like 85ish when the tire heats up from driving. That makes for a rough ride unloaded.

Not the point, here - 06 Dodge says his Heavy Duty "calls for" al tires @ 60 psi. I am questioning that.

And, the software upgrades permanently set warnings at 70 psi. Only way to turn off is with a custom tuner such as HP Tuner.
