I have a 2008 ram 1500. I was driving to work this morning and I stopped at the drive thru, while I was ordering I let off the brake and the engine seemed to rev a little but I thought nothing of it. Later on down the road about a mile I stopped at a red light and the engine completely cut out but the lights stayed on. I turned the key off and tried to start it back up, it didn't start up the first try and on the second it finally started. What would cause this? I drove the rest of the way to work (about 30+ miles) with no issues.

Might want to keep any eye on your fuel pump, you should check for any stored cel codes.

It's possible you got some bad gas. Couldn't hurt to put some gas treatment in it.

On other cars I have worked on the same problem occured when the idle motor was defective, but I dont know if it applies on Ram trucks.

I would check to see if your throttle body is dirty clean it with some carb/brake clean and check air filter while your there.

I've had a couple little different issues that happened with my 2005 with the 4.7L. At first start up it would tend to hunt for the idle and then eventually idle at 600 RPM. A couple of different times it would almost die but then kick back up to a high idle when I would stop when in drive.

I pulled the intake off and the air filter was pretty dirty. The throttle body was filthy. The inlet air sensor was black. CRC makes a sensor cleaner spray and a carb and throttle body cleaner too. Cleaned everything off and made sure to hit the idle air control valve too. New air filter and put everything back together and it idles slightly higher than 600 RPM (625-635 RPM?). It doesn't hunt for the idle on a cold start from the last time I started it.

Could be a tps starting to die (throttle position sensor) if failed generally doesn't throw CEL nor does faulty IAC, clean check lube IAC, mine likes to die when outside temps get under 30f, tps is right above IAC on driver side of throttle body, remove breather housing and their both right there, if tps starts dying ecm can't tell where "idle" throttle position is, hence the stall, and double check some of those IACs on later year trucks are slightly adjustable, can't remember using scan tool what idle voltage (no pedal) is supposed to be, but thinks it's out their in tech data
