Hey

Does anyone know how to properly find out your trucks cab size? A spare part catalogue automatically selected my truck into a "extended crew cab", while another selected into quad cab. According to VIN.

I have a bed size of an approximately 73", and by pictures the quad cab looks more like my car cause of the lesser space in the back seat.

Thanks

The CrewCab started with Gen4 DS body trucks, before that it was just the QuadCab that was available and should have a 6.4' bed

2007 had standard cab, quad cab with the rear door smaller than the front and Mega cab where the rear door is the same size as the front and has an extension behind the rear door.

Standard Cab has 2 doors

Extended Cab has 2 main doors & 2 short rear doors without door handles

Quad Cab has 4 doors, the rear doors are not quite full sized, all doors have handles

Crew Cab has 4 Full Sized rear doors, all have handles

MEGA CAB has 4 doors, with handles, the rear doors are over sized

On the 2009 - maybe 2018 + , 4th Generation Rams
I measured the front door widths
Standard, Quad, Crew, & possibly Mega Cab front doors are all the same size

Thanks guys,

It sure seems like I have the quad. Four doors, rear smaller than the front, handles on all. But the back seat is yet relatively comfortable and by searching on my VIN I get that its the crew cab... and on rock auto there is an option on spare parts that says extended crew cab, hence the confusion.

So is there a extended crew cab size? Is it possible that 2008 year cab sizes are somewhat "special"? Also by typing the vin on one particular spare part search it says extended crew cab for my truck.... super confusing.

It all targets down to whether I should have spare parts for quad cab or extended crew cab or crew cab. So far I have ordered and installed several spare parts, such as wheel bearings brakes radiator etc for the extended crew cab option on rock auto... it all fitted.

For 2006-'08 there was a MegaCab option for the 1500, it was basically a 2500 with a softer suspension.
Things like engine parts, brakes, bearings, etc are the same amongst the different cab sizes.

Thanks for useful info. So like on rockauto it shouldnt make much difference on simpler stuff like the ones mentioned regarding to cab size?

I was measuring the doors, rear is 36" while front is 46". So there is just a 20% difference

Other than stuff related to the different cab/bed size, springs and drive shafts are specific to the cab/bed configuration. For your QuadCab if it fits a regular cab truck it should be good. If it's part's for a '06-'08 1500 MegaCab they'll match up to a 2500/3500.

Standard cab doors are the longest doors on these trucks everything else is less length. All the doors are the same thickness . Density ?

How you mean exactly? On rockauto so far I have only bought parts for Extended crew cab, since that's the info I've got. And I cant remember if I ever seen the Quad cab option on rockauto, remember seeing Crew cab, regular, mega.
You think parts from regular will fit on my quad?

Only part from I've ordered that didnt fit, is caliper pistons. Had to reorder from Mopar to get the right ones. The pistons I ordered first I think was for crewcab and they were to big by a few millimeters.

OK, i found a bit more confusion :(
I would say that this info may be incorrect, only because it comes from Wikipedia

1998 updates[edit]

In 1998, Dodge introduced the 4-door Quad Cab, which used smaller clamshell doors directly behind the main doors. This was the first extended cab pickup to have four doors. (The 2-door Club Cab remained available through 2002.)

This major update included an all-new frame, suspension, powertrains, interiors, and sheet metal. The crew cab models for this generation were actually Quad Cab trucks that had conventional-opening rear doors.

there was another website that went into more detail
it was called ALLPAR, but it seems to have changed
Allpar—has undergone a rather massive change under owners-since-2017 VerticalScope. However, all the content is still there—it just takes more searching. Feb 2, 2021

I hope that you can find your answers
