Hey guys I have a 2015 ram 1500 Outdoorsman V8 5.7 and I've been getting mostly service shifter messages (service trailer brake and service electronic braking system on startup then only service shifter over and over), it started a day after I changed my oil. That was last month.

I removed my shifter and blew some compressed air into the back of it, it seemed to work, but came back a few weeks later. Must be cause I unplugged the battery when I took out the shifter. Now I just unplug my battery and plug it back in to reset the computer and it stays normal for a few hours.

I remember a bit of oil spilling onto that black connector just under the oil filter because that stupid tight space where the filter is located, could that connector cause this kind of glitch if it has moisture or in this case oil on it. I mean I would think that these connectors are sealed to prevent that, but I don't know I'm young and still learning, so any help from more knowledgeable men/women is appreciated.

It's weird because the shifter works just fine. Sometimes it gets to the point where the computer puts my truck in park or neutral, can't remember which, but it's one of those when I slow down enough. I guess it's programmed to do that to protect itself. That only happens sometimes though.

I was thinking of buying a new shifter, but mine seems to work just fine so I'm thinking it must be something else. Thought I'd post here about it before bringing it to the dealership and spending a bunch of money to diagnose.

What condition is your battery in is it OEM, probably time for a new one, with all of those service messages you have a low voltage problem.

Also check the condition of the battery terminal connectors and battery terminals if you determine your current battery is okay (clean them with a terminal brush).
