I wont be buying a battery powered car in my lifetime.
Me too. I will likely buy one of THE last ICE vehicles built, and that will likely get me through life. I am almost 59 now and I think ICE vehicles will still be on our roadways even 25-30 years from now. If I am not mistaken, even today most new vehicles sold are still ICE. Correct?

EDIT: The sharp increase in electric-vehicle registrations at the start of 2022 meant that the EV share of the overall market in the U.S. hit a historic 4.6 percent. (From C&D)

So 95% of new vehicles sold are still ICE, for today. Works for me.

I think (were I ever to be in the market for a car again) I would look hard at one of these..
My biggest complaint about the EVs is that they have no soul.
For the most part they look like rolling urinals and sound like a 20volt Dewalt...

At least Dodge is adding some cool factor..
Since they're adding "real car sound" maybe someone can write a tune to make it sound like a TIE Fighter. That would be cool.

If they are making fake gas engine sounds, maybe the honda 4 cylinder crowd with the 5 gallon muffler dragging on the ground will get into these.

Reminds me of those gadgets we put on our bicycles back in the '70s:

It was a black box and hand grip assembly that you could twist like a motorcycle throttle to make fake motorcycle sounds.

Or if you had to go really low budget you could mount playing cards so that they plucked your spokes.

No electric car for me though. I'll drive my gas and diesel trucks until they cut off the supply or I die, whichever comes first.

Already saw the 'fake exhaust' device on a Tesla, complete with faux carbon fiber 'tip'.
100 programmable sounds including train horns and rooster crows.
Supposedly wires into the car to match acceleration sounds.

Yeah, that's muscle....

This time electric vehicles will be the future. May take longer than expected but technology will always win in the end. Face it...piston engines are old, OLD technology just like incandescant bulbs will wither away too.

Batteries and charging have always been the key. Otherwise, old Nikali Tesla would have had us driving electric vehicles from the get-go, as he invented the electric motor long ago.

Battery energy density and cost couldn't compete with hydrocarbons until recently.

I read recently (newspaper?) EV are app. 5% of vehicle total sales today. i.e. - 95% of vehicle sales are still ICE.

This isn't new either.
Several years ago Harley Davidson came out with the Livewire EV motorcycle...
By all accounts it was a fast nimble machine but a huge departure from most of their customer base.
I saw one in person the thing sounded like a turbine engine winding up thanks to some cleverly designed belt pulley rotors I believe....
Frankly I thought they were pretty cool as far as EVs went but that price was way over the top...

And we all know about Ford piping in V8 sounds over the speakers of the Raptor so Ford guys could pretend they were in a real truck...

I bought an H-D Heritage Softail in '21 and they highlighted that Livewire on their center display. It was interesting, but they'd priced it at $29k. That's a niche market. They since dropped price to $23k, I don't know anyone who bought one.

My 1746cc engine gets 43mpg in mixed riding and 47mpg on pure highway riding. Why would I want an electric motorcycle? Maybe they think feds will outlaw gas bikes soon? I don't know. Commuter cars I can understand.

You know, I can see the benefits of an EV. My daughter had a Prius. Only parted with it when the AC failed and repairs would cost more than the car was worth, it was 15 years old. So they ordered a gas EV Hyundai. For them, mostly commuting in town, makes sense.
For me, a paid for 2008 1500 and a 2016 Mazda 6, makes no sense. I'm not looking to ever have a car payment again. One of ours gets trashed, the other guy will get us an EV.

I'm kind of curious on what it'll weigh if it's supposedly 800 volts .The Tesla is 375 volts,so to get to 800,they've either got a hell'va step-up transformer or more batteries,i also wonder how far it'll drive if you're using it's max power, and what the tire life expectancy will be .Will it need a 10 ply tire to have any tire life expectancy, lol
The Ford Lighting 1500 comes in at just under 3.5 tons (6590lbs) I am still trying to see the trade off. A whole new version of the "lead sled".

I come from a family of loggers. Chainsaws are a way of life for most of us.
I was nearly disowned when I bought a battery powered trim saw ( even though it's a Stihl)
But it's been a great tool. I use it far more than I had originally thought I would.
I liked it so much I bought a mower and trimmer that all use the same batteries and I'm happy with all of them.
I now have a cousin and a brother in law that both bought electric chainsaws.
They say they are great for hauling around the farm on the Ranger.
They are a long way from replacing the big gas saws that they use for logging or cutting a winter's worth of firewood, but they definitely have their place.
I think electric vehicles are kind of the same. What works for one task may not work for others.

the Harley electric bike was just a feeble attempt at reaching a younger crowd of buyers. the typical Harley rider/buyer like me is getting old and the bikes we want to buy arent the bikes that Harley needs to sell to appeal to the younger crowd. I have a wide glide and an ultra but I am keeping them until I dont ride anymore. Harley does not make any money on guys like me so they have to come up with sportier less expensive bikes for a changing market.
