No, been busy with work doing full details from 7am til' 5pm ...today I had a free day and decided to clean the inside of my wheels so I can go and get them re-balanced and rotated on Monday .... OP said hes going to go check it out Saturday, if I have time I might work something out to meet him there lol ... would be fun to see what the dealer says

I have more reservations about that damn truck now, there is a huge gap in the CarFax from 53k to 71k miles with nothing.....It.s like something is being hidden and i can't get an honest answer from the dealer. its a 3 hour trip from where I live so i can just pop in for a quick test drive to see. Meet up would have been great too. At this time im at a loss as what to do. Im even more gray haired than before lol

The yearly registrations shoul;d show up. If the prior owner did all oil changes, ect, himself, then nothing would show on the Carfax for that period.

Dealers do seem to have a way to hide some details. If really interested, buy a Carfax yourself to make sure all is right.

The gap is simple. The previouls owner probably got the dealer run-around and ended up finding a cheaper solution on the engine and tranny repairs ...just like a lot of owners do.

Like I say, you probably shouldn't buy it. The right owner for that tk is one who is willing to assume risk. If all those items listed above have been ironed out (new engine, new/rebuilt trans), then it'll be a sweet ride for someone. But maybe they weren't. Who can say? Any truck/car can go bonkers at any time. But if you're not willing to assume the risk. Don't even look at it. There are other trucks out there. Don't buy something you're not the most remotely comfortable with. Now that someone put a bug in your ear, everytime there's a minor squeak in the glovebox you're going to think you bought a lemon and kick yourself. That's how most buyers are. LOL.

It may be that a long powertrain warranty may help reduce your risk. But the fact is, most people can't handle the idea that their sweet, cherrished, beloved truck might in fact break down at any possible moment. And it's entirely possible with any truck with that many miles. That's life.

I've seen so many times, co-workers or other people I know dump a whole lot of money into their truck ...fix all the expensive things that are wrong. And what do they turn around and do? They sell it or trade it off. My neighbor had a King Ranch truck. He literally spent $16K fixing the engine, suspension, brakes and other things on it. Brand new expensive tires. I know him well. I mean, he had many things on the driveline repaired that didn't really even need it (shop suggested it). It was a fairly new truck too. Then he literally trades it off for a brand new F350 less than 2 months after he got it back. The new owner (guy in our home town) ended up with a darn nice truck with tons of new driveline stuff on it and rebuilt diesel engine. He got a heck of a deal, he's tickled. I see him drive the ole king ranch around town now and then. Sure it has a few minor boogers like a small rust hole in the bed, carpet stains ...minor things. Maybe he had those things fixed. A lot of owners do that it seems -- dump a lot in a vehicle, then sell it. It must be human nature. Probably they just got done writing that 'last' check to get it fixed and reached their pain threshold. IDK

Then he literally trades it off for a brand new F350 less than 2 months after he got it back. The owner (guy in our home town) bought an almost new truck with tons of new stuff on it. He got a heck of a deal, he's tickled. Sure it has a few minor issues like a small rust hole in the bed, carpet stains ...minor things. Most owners do that it seems -- dump a lot in a vehicle, then sell it.
Here is the thing, when the person I know got it it had 50K miles, right off the bad the truck started with issues all sorts of them ... 20k miles later and he traded it in ... it spent a lot of time at the shop and I mean a lot of time ... he was never happy with it and kept dumping money left and right on it ... he finally said fawket and traded the fawker in ....

Why did the 1st owner get rid of it after 50k? He probably beat up on it and beat up on it hard if the cam and tranny went out in 50k miles right ? Or it probably didn't and the truck was just riddled with issues, a Friday evening truck?

@Mr_Ames I honestly would just forget about this truck ...it's been 60 days since it's been on the lot, that right there is a red flag, huge red flag ... on top of that it's at one of the worst dealerships in Riverside county, that dealership is just shady ...

If I had time I would of gone to check it out, I might have time tomorrow after my 2 morning details, if I do I will go check it out and maybe save you a trip or say "hey you know what the truck looks and runs good, might want to come check it out" ...

Don't go grey headed on us just yet lol ... if it's meant to be it's meant to be .... I "WILL" let you know as soon as I finish with my 2 details if I can go or not, it's just going to depend on how long it takes me to get them done ..

The other option Mr Ames ...is to waltz in there on Sat and offer them a low dollar for it. See if they'll dance with ya. Take your time ...have some fun with the deal. A really good deal usually takes time ...some decent back n fourth. Challenge yourself to 'wear them out' first. LOL. I'm sure you're up to it.

It *is* the end of the month after all ....and dealers need to turn inventory. Dealers need to show sales on the 'books'. Nothing 'eats' at a dealer worse than used cars which have sat for 60+ days. The more expensive it is, the most it's costing them. Dealers are more willing to take a loss if they can get cashflow (and nothing like a pickup to generate a lot more cash). So go see if you can wear them down .... 'swing' a sweet deal. Go talk to the mgr/owner, or whoever.

You know what the cure for car problems are? The perennial good feeling of a heck of a good deal! Makes a lot of problems seem suddenly 'repairable', 'not that big of a deal' ....because you say to yourself "I got a great smokin' deal on this gorgeous truck, after all!" That's how buyer psychology often works. If you get it cheap enough, you can have your buddy drop a brand new engine in it and it'll still be a good deal. And if you can't work out a deal, you at least tried. Never have to worry about that Truck that got away.

Just don't forget that powertrain warranty. If they don't offer one, check tomorrow on Fri what a 3rd party PTW goes for (you can buy them outright from various companies ...just do a google search). That might be cheaper than whatever the dealer would charge. They might sell you the vehicle cheap and throw a grand more onto the warranty. Be educated what a warranty costs outright. If it's a Chrysler warranty, that would be even better (if one is avail). If the warranty is too much, maybe you should put those few thousand bucks towards a new tranny or new engine and have one of your buddies do it (rather than an expensive dealer/shop). I don't know your penchant for risk, your mechanical capabilities or how deep your wallet is. Those are questions to ask yourself.

Tell them you know the previous owner and that he had all kinds of issues and that you'll take it if they drop $5000 off or whatever. If it's been sitting they might be willing to play.

Otherwise just move on, there are plenty of gorgeous trucks around in (apparently) better condition. You don't need this particular one.

Props to @CheechDogg.0n37s for speaking up!

Probably just as well ...considering the reported conditions, etc. At least you found out before making the trip down. Keep looking, there are others out there.

Best of luck

Are they that rare out there, or just 'affordable' low mile ones not common? Are you looking for 2wd or 4wd, or whatever the 'right' deal is?

Running boards are more important than most people give credit. They can save your paint, and save your driver's side seat foam. There'a thick 'bar' (for lack of a better term) that goes around the seat under the foam. People slide in and out and it pinches the foam on that bar. Eventually it wears out the side of the foam and the seat cover. If you look at a lot of these Rams' you'll see damaged drivers-side seat foam/covers.

So, if you have good running boards and train yourself how to get in and out putting the least 'wear' on the seat edge, the seat will look good for a long time. I know, because thats how my truck was when I got it. I bought a new foam and seat cover from Mopar.... Now I'm in the hunt for the right running boards.

Unlike a 4x4, you can probably lift the front of yours w/o wearing the front end as much. That's one nice thing about a 2wd.

Happy motoring!!!
