So, I noticed that Carven was having a sale on Progressive direct fit muffler kits for $262 each/free shipping! That made my mind up to pull the trigger ASAP but I got to reading about them online and there seems to be a ton of people that say the Progressive is a great tone at idle and good bark on acceleration and very little drone...but I also see a few posts with complaints of heavy drone at highway speeds and such! How are there so many opposite views? Drone is pretty straight forward...it either does or it doesn't?

My truck is a 2013 daily driver and I don't really want a ton of drone. I only drive 12 miles one way to work daily but we do like to take the truck on the occasional highway trip. Do you guys that have a Carven Progressive think that I will like this bad boy? Obviously, It's on the way and I will install it and try it out...I'm just asking to see what I am getting myself into, LOL!

its because drone is subjective. one mans drone is another mans tone!

i personally like a good rumble going down the highway. its smooth and comforting. although im sure someone else would tell me i have lots of drone

also i listen to alot of loud machines at work and i find my exhaust not loud enough during the week when going back and forth to work
but when i drive around for fun on the weekend it seems just right

so theres lots of variables, it comes down to what you like. install it and see!

I have the Competitor series which almost everyone says has "more drone" than the progressive but to me it sounds like a beast .... You are going to love it !

Carven Progressive here, I loved it from the moment I got it but in my crew cab it does drone.
I added a 1/4 wave resonator tuned for 130hz I think (would have to double check the length) and it eliminated the drone and now I love it even more.

I'm more worried about any effects on the engine after adding an aftermarket exhaust? Is it safe for the engine? I always hear people talk about back pressure and stuff, but a lot of people seem to swap OEM mufflers for deletes and aftermarkets!

Drone is person specific but generally speaking based on rpm cruising. I had a little drone when I had the carven progressive. I also have the 8 speed and 3.92 gears so highway would sit from 1800rpm to 2200rpm which is where the drone was. To me it was very minimal but everyone hears different frequencies better

There will be no damage to the engine. Back pressure to some degree cools exhaust valves. The back pressure most refer to is whether you will lose any torque at certain rpm's. Some through flow mufflers cut back on torque slightly but with the hp that a hemi produces, you probably won't notice. Don't worry, you will just enjoy a nice sound and let that hemi breath a little easier.

my exact setup, crew cab 8spd 3.92.
I agree was moderate / minimal, I lived with it for 70k miles. But once i did the resonator it was night and day better. OP you won't be disappointed.

I remember the smile I had on first start up with the muffler from stock.

DAMN IT !!!!

You guys just put something else on my list. The sale does make it a bit less painful.

Im the oddball out with a 4.7, so need to call Carvan tomorrow and see what they got. They are located in Corona, so not out of the question of stopping directly there.

Drone can't be any worse than the air noise from my AVS in channel vent shades! Sounds like I am in a jet at highway speeds, LOL!

When I got mine I went directly to their office in Corona and got it myself the same day I ordered it ...

If you have an angle grinder you can just split the strap. No need to cut the bolt off. Cut down the side. It pops off easy.

Same setup for me and exact same range I felt there was drone. Wasn’t terrible but after 2 years wore me down and I was sick of it. Still loved the sound of the Carven at idle and especially on acceleration but just couldn’t handle the drone on highway anymore.

I had the Competitor series installed for about 18 months and got tired of the Beast mode sound. It did sound great and turned heads all the time but I grew tired of the "drone" in the cab. I get it, if it's to loud your to old, and I own up to that.... I'm to old to have my truck sound like a weekend quarter mile racecar. I pulled it off and went with a model most of y'all don't want to hear about. If any of you want the 5,000 mile Competitor I have sitting in the garage let me know, I'll let it go for a fraction of the original cost.

I love mine. I turn off MDS and I have no drone on highway, but a nice rumble on acceleration and at startup.
