I like the looks of the white one better AND when weather is hot it does make a big difference. Less mileage too but the price is quite a difference and you don't get the console you want. If it were me, the white one.

A full floor console will run somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500

I won't choose on the colors
i am particular about colors

The day i bought my 2016 Ram, i was already buying parts to change it into a Sportier Style & i changed the Color
2016 Eco-diesels could not be ordered with the Plastic Front Bumper & my preferred color was not available

Give it another year there'll be even more Rams up for salvage (cheaper consoles). Maybe you could find one here on this site. There was one guy who went to a bench seat.

There are two color options when it comes to trucks, white and wrong..........

#whitetrucksmatter

JK - either is a good choice!

My thoughts too. Buy the black one and paint it white. :)

If the original white one had a new trans, plus lots of tinkering, there's no telling whats wrong with it. Likely a lot.

My biggest hangup between the 2 trucks is really the mileage. Any reason to be scared of the 122k? I am going to have to hang on to it for quite a while says the wife..
Oh lord another post that deals with the wife. I'm sure she drives what she wants. Buy what you want and buy the next truck when you want if the deal is right.

White would be my preferred color. However, I would always err to the side of caution with previous modifications. Who knows what modifications were actually done at the time and how much abuse the truck has seen with those mods. You can tell because the transmission was already replaced at 76k miles. That screams abuse to me.

My vote is the black truck. I do thing you should keep looking though. Why limit yourself to only these two options?

In my opinion yes. I would be concerned with the condition of the camshaft and lifters. I would take it out on a long test drive and really open it up at high speed and see what it does. Check the service records maybe camshaft and lifters have already been done on it

I own a 2001 Dodge Diesel and while it's not the gen you are getting it's still a Dodge and has Dodge problems; I've not had any problems ever with engine so i would not be worried about the milage with regards to the drivetrain IF it was maintained properly. With that said, i have a great fear of inheriting other peoples problems so would in no way buy the white one... they have deleted it which means they've messed with it and you don't know what else they've tinkered with. That coupled with it needed a transmission at lower miles makes me say no way. Whatever abused caused that transmission to fail was also felt by the rest of the truck. While I prefer white over black in color, I would get the one that is stock factory assuming it's in good shape and properly maintained.. at least you really know what you are getting and if you need to work on it you don't have to work around something that isn't stock. You can also sell it way easier. There will be those that argue they did a good job, but the fact that it needed a transmission and has been tampered with tells me there is more to that truck than you would ever want to take on. Additionally, the federal level (EPA) it putting pressure on states to enforce those deletes so things could quickly change on what is and is not enforced; for me, another reason to walk away from the white one. you can google a 2020 letter from the EPA Re: Tampered Diesel Pickup Trucks: A Review of Aggregated Evidence from EPA Civil Enforcement Investigations to see this topic is very much alive and with the move to ban the sale of new diesels in the near future and push towards electric i forsee stronger enforcements to get diesels in general and especially the ones that are in violation off the road. To me, you avoid a lot of risk if you stay away from the white one. You are shy of the black one because of fears those extra miles may cause problems, i feel there is way more risk in the white one with the problems it already has. Good luck in your choice.

So what is it you plan to use the truck for? Since you are looking at diesels I'm assuming you want to tow something? There are several things about the white truck that would really bother me though i admit these are personal preferences.
Check the payload stickers. A laramie 2500 diesel might have a surprisingly poor payload rating.

1. Leveled. Why? The back of the truck is higher so that it's level when loaded so leveling it is bad for towing IMO.
2. 35's. Again, why? Not necessarily good for towing either. Did they go with more of an off road tire and does the tire they used have an appropriate load range?
3. Emissions mods. Even if you aren't worried about them, sooner or later you will sell it and when you do will your potential buyers care? Were the mods done by someone who knew what they were doing or did someone take a hack saw to it in their driveway? Will you someday move somewhere that does emissions inspections and have an oh crap moment (note: this actually happened to me once when I left active duty in the AF and ended up in another state).

I am surprised it is at a dealer. If we get a deleted truck from trade-in, we have to wholesale it. Can't put it on the lot.

I don't know much about the RAM/Cummins engine/emmissions warranty, but I am familiar with the bigger Cummins engine/emissions warranties, such as the one for the Kenworth PX-9 engine. For the 2022 model year it clearly states that the warranty is void if the delete is done before 36 months or 350000 kms (base warranty ends at that point anyway), except under exceptional operating circumstances.

Before 2022, warranty was void and all dealers were under threat of losing affiliation with Cummins if they even worked on a deleted system, no matter how much mileage or age.

So this has always made me wonder why people pay for these expensive engines, exhaust systems and their warranties, then immediately void said warranties by paying thousands more to delete them?

Just because a dealer was unscrupulous enough to do it, doesn't mean Cummins has to honor anything on that engine afterwards. And they will know when they look at the computer readouts when there is a problem.

They can't all be mechanics that can do their own work.

Sorry. Rant off.

I would personally go with the black truck, looking at the pictures it seams very clean and is an upscale model over the white truck. Even though the black truck has more miles on it if it is original equipment and hasn't been tampered with along with being very nice clean truck it has more than likely been serviced and well cared for. You can also take the truck to an outside mechanic other than the dealer and let him check it over. When it comes to inspections for registration depending on where you live you could also have issues with a truck that has been deleted and tampered with. Good luck in your decision.

People typically don't get rid of a vehicle until something is wrong with it. Go with the black one it has less modifications to deal with.
Besides any of that, the back one looks more upscale.

I'm in agreement on the deleted truck. No telling what the future holds for mods. I want the "stockest" truck I can get unless I know it well. I love white but for me the "blacked out" look is not my cup of tea. Black and chrome is timeless and will always be in style...

I can see why it's a difficult decision. I voted for white b/c lot fewer miles (on the rest of the truck too), easier to keep clean, shows less scratches, and if the mods are working, it's less work for you. You can replace the seats and console but you can't roll back the miles very easy. I wouldn't worry about selling it, you can always sell it 3rd party after you've owned it 5 years or so.

But if you prefer black trucks ...maybe that's the one for you. I have a white truck. It's ok, not my favorite color ...but I've had some black vehicles in the past and kind of told myself I was going to take a break from owning a black vehicle for a long time. You need a 3rd option (blue)!! LOL. My neighbor has a metallic blue 2500 diesel 4th gen just like yours pictured and it looks gorgeous.
Hell yeah! I've got a peal blue ram and love the colour! go different :)

UPDATE: I've been talking with the dealership all morning about the black truck, then about an hour ago he sends me pictures of body damage to the rear quarter panel. He says the carfax is clean and he is was not aware of it before he started talking to me. Said he didn't want to proceed any further until he gets the story on it. He seems genuine about it.
CARFAX only has accidents that are "reported" Does NOT mean it (the vehicle) has never had one!!! Same with all information that it posts about any vehicle. Be very careful about trusting CARFAX at having complete information about ANY vehicle.
An added thought from an "OLD FART" why would anyone worry about - payload- nothing that can fit in the box can weigh very much. Will never understand buying a "truck" with a 4-4.5 ft. box! Most kids bicycles won't fit in them. the odds are most of modern drivelines -engines to the diff's are pretty bullet proof. It's sheet metal and interiors that show the most wear the soonest (spelled correct?). About the mods, if you modify yours why is it bad that someone else modified theirs? Just look make sure it is done correctly, or take it to someone who will check it for you. Dealer won't let you do that-move on. 75% percent of most buyer - maybe even higher than that- like the four doors with all the gadgets, I am in the minority. I had a yard of wet topsoil in the back of my Dakota owned for 22 years ( 1800-2000 lbs.) It took 3 trips to get the 3 yards I needed home, to shovel it all out. For a small truck it made a great mule. My- new to me ride- is a reg. cab long box. But there is just Rebecca and my self so interior is big enough, I even got power windows on this one!2016 Ram Tradesman, 5.7 2WD. Just your basic -truck. $22,500, 58,567 miles took the motorcycle to WV to get it, loaded the bike in the back and drove back home to upstate NY. Up here that would have been 30K. Well worth the trip.
Have you looked on line? Found mine on the auto trader site.
