2013 and newer rams it is a tight fit, some say impossible some say it takes some work but doable kust find the angle. 2009-2012 no problem. Let us know how it works out. I trusted the fitament chart and a few guys who used w/o issue must have been early 4 gen, I missed the fact for the entire reason they changed the filters in the first place to the smaller filter. My apologizes, bad form on burla right there. It is indeed a great filter if you can get it on.I was just about to do an oil change when I posted this but I decided to hold off for a bit because of this issue. I need a backup filter before I swap it out. Maybe tomorrow I will get it done. I am curious if the 20-500 fits on a 4x4 or if that is what is causing the fitment issue. Will let you all know when I get my oil changed out. Which should be this week.
The 20-820 is a tight fit as it is, don't remember what is close to it off the top of my head but it's not a real easy filter to install or remove. No biggie I will snap some pics when I attempt the 20-500 install HAHA I actually had two local guys hit me up and offer to sell me a 20-820, very thankful for them! Great community we have here.I'd just get down there and look if there is anything within 2 inches of the current filters diameter that will jam you up.
I found a few places with them in stock using Google and other sites say they will be in stock by 9/13.I have chatted with a few you oil gurus recently but now I am running against the clock. I am about to roll to 8k miles and I need to do an oil change. To be fair, Blackstone has told me to run past 10k multiple times I just have a hard time doing it.
Can't find any RP 20-820 filters anywhere, back-order dates are out many months...
I have ran a K&N before on my truck but the last one of those I ran, there was a defect where oil was leaking past the nut welded on the end of the filter. So that is out of the question in my opinion.
What is second or third best? I refuse to run a Fram because of the horrible videos I have seen on their tear down and inspects.
Ams oil or Wix is all that is left right?
I am sure it's not as big of a deal as I making it out to be in my head, I have just had great results with RedLine 10-30 and an RP 20-820, I really don't want to change it up.
Damn i'm getting the feeling i'm a bad influence . The 30-8A dwarfs the 20-820 in size that's for sure, plus you can get the old style 3/4-16 filters in the middle of nowhereI following the path blazed by Wild one. I'm switching my remote filter setup over to the old style 3/4 -16 filter, vs the 20-820, easy switch by replacing the one insert and replacement filters appear to be available.
Or...you could contract with a current filter manufacturer to produce a filter under your own brand. You'd probably pay more for rebranding graphics and packaging, but it would save you acquiring your own manufacturing equipment. You'd have to commit to quantity buys and you'd bare the cost of marketing, but you could inflate the price to your heart's content.Thats right. But I can tell you this from experience: great customer experience, service, and quality are worth the extra money to certain markets...especially the enthusiast market of many niches. If we charged 17 bucks for an oil filter that was in the top 4 performing brands, it's in stock, it's from a small company that caters to a community's needs, and ESPECIALLY if it responds to feedback...can make a very wealthy small company. Take this with a grain of salt though...I own zero companies, but I have definitely bought into the "you get what you pay for" in many, but not all scenarios...lol
Just wanted to come back here and update everyone.
Finally got around to changing my oil this afternoon using a 20-500 and RL 10w-30. (I work from home most of the time now so I don't put many miles on the truck these days)
First fire up after dumping 6qts in the truck, idle PSI was 50-52, ended up adding a full 7qts to the truck to get it to the top of the full mark on the dipstick.
So far, the 20-500 is no different than the 20-820 functionally and it is way easier to install the 20-500 on my 4x4 1500. Going to send my black stone sample out tomorrow. This might be my new go-to filter from here on out.

I can't update my previous posts filter specs. Here the updated list. Seems the Ultra has removed the plastic mesh backing after removing the metal screen backing first.
I know HEMIMANN goes by filter diameter to estimate filter media area, but there are plenty of cut open videos showing the # of pleats play a significant role in filter media area. https://youtu.be/d5ULRcCNy5E?t=397
