Hi guys I have a 2013 3500 single axle longhorn diesel, hers the issue, i no longer have trailer brakes when I plug in my travel trailer, it just says no trailer attached, I get no power at the hitch with the green wire, all fuses are okay and the wire is okay. When I check the the trailer control module I get no power coming out, do I have a bad or failed controller if so is there a way to check it?

thanks

They make trailer load/brake testers, plenty on Amazon or elsewhere, not simply a 7 pin tester. Newer trailer brake controllers need to sense an electrical load (the trailers lights/brakes) before they will work. They also work off pulse modulation and not direct voltage. Doubt it's your controller, most likely the trailer, at least in my experience.

The controller goes out and checks to see, if there a resistance load looking for the brake magnets on each wheel. If it doesnt see that then, it will state no connection. And since these IBCs are pulsed DC, you will only maybe see maybe 4-6 volts(maxed out at 10) with a DVM, so its really hard to check this operation. What you might be better to do , is using your DVM, check to see if you ohm out on the RV.

Just possibly, the trailer wiring is not set to work with a Ram

have a buddy connect to your trailer with their Chevy or Ford or ...

This sounds like what happened to a Chevy I had.
I don't remember the exact part, but it was some module that was in the braking circuit. It went bad and gave me a warning like you have.
The problem was that GM had no modules in the country and it took 6 months before dealer got them in stock again.
In the mean time I had to cut my harness and wire in an aftermarket brake controller in order to tow.
I swore off of Chevy after that.
