I had this issue on my 1500 before I traded. They had to replace the eTorque battery unit (under warranty) and never had the problem again. The motor/generator runs at 48V, and the control module with the higher voltage battery then charges the 12V system. Something in the DC/DC converter module was bad, but was part of the battery pack. Get it done while it is under warranty and before it strands you.

12V lead acid battery and 12v starter is still present, and used for cold starts.

The Ram 1500 Classic is a 4th gen (DS) model. They were never equipped with etorque/stop start.

DS=4th gen trucks, DT=5th gen which is the new body style.

12V batter is in the engine compartment as one would expect.

Either in the video (link up thread), or I read somewhere, IF the 12V craps out, the 48V will start the truck.

That's not something I've read or heard, and that's not in the video. I never experienced a flat 12v battery so I can't say for sure, but it wouldn't make sense to me that it would ever have the capability to use the etorque gen/motor to start the engine on a cold start (using the push button or key fob). Please provide your source for this information. I'd be very interested to know if this is true.

It is just the 2 letter designator for the vehicle assigned by the manufacturer. Here it's used to quickly distinguish between 4th gen/classic Rams vs 5th gen Rams in the same way TJ vs JK vs CJ etc are used to distinguish between different generations of Jeep Wranglers.

Keep in mind that figure is for marketing purposes as it’s only achieved with gear reduction.

The eTorque generator only develops 49 lb-ft of torque.
