"a $1250 Diablo and pcm down the drain"

Why this? You needed an unlocked PCM either way or are the Diablo unlocked PCM's on usable with Diablos now?
Because the local tuner used hptuner, which, from what I understand, isn’t “compatible” with a Diablo unlocked pcm. He had to unlock it for hptuners.. ‍♂️

Diablo has figured out how to lock their unlocked PCM's,so you can only use their programmer on them. There's lots of smaller outfits who are unlocking them these days, and allow you tune with either HP or Diablo.

Glad you went with your gut and the shop’s recommendation to rework the cam. I agree there. From J’s perspective though, he is not going nor would many others, touch that job after someone else did work on it. He should have just communicated that to you out of respect as a man though

Have the prices come down any to unlock them?

Or let me ask this - I don't have any desire to tune, due to the lifetime maxcare, HOWEVER, I do have a spare used PCM with the same number and having a spare backup pcm with my stock truck information on it to use in the case of an emergency would be nice.
So does HP or one of the smaller places, unlock the pcm and then load the stock information on it so that it would be plug and play?
I don't think the dealer can reflash a used pcm with my truck information - new yes, but I thought I was told not used. Honestly, I didn't look into it too deeply.

I want to think that the PCM I have is off of a Rebel and I have an Outdoorsman - the numbers are the same but I am pretty sure it wouldn't start the truck. Or is it all in the skim?

OR - can I just use AlphaOBD to write in my VIN to the used PCM and all be well??

As you can tell, I haven't looked into this to hard :)

Similar question ... if I get the PCM from a 2014-16 Ram will it work on my truck which is a 2018 ? Or does it have to be married to my truck? I found one but don't want to pull the trigger on it and end up with a useless PCM lol ...

The PCM's are different in the 16 than the 14. 2016 PCM is locked, I don't think the 14 is.

People have used 2014-2016 pcms in the 2016-2018 Ecodiesels - not sure if gassers are different. Hmmm

So the PCM is from a 2015 for $200 .... would it work on my truck ?
Ideally, I would look for one that has the same part number and everything as yours does to be safe. This thread says they have done older pcm's but it is the eco.

I think Alpha can change the VIN, I might try it - worse case it doesn't work.

OK I did a quick read, You paid some one 100 to answer questions about his product??
Be a rainy day in hell before that would happen.
I would have found a shop first that knew what they where doing, than ordered parts, after talking to them.

Well, at that time I had already ordered the cam. And I have no problem paying somebody for their expertise.o

I definitely agree with you - Given all of the accolades and recommendations I got for this guy before contacting him, I was eager to go with him and would have gladly paid for his time/efforts had he shown any.......At this point with NO parts after 6 weeks and even LESS responses to my numerous attempts to contact him via email , instagram, and Facebook for a simple order update (even hit up his wife yesterday after finding her FB account from your Bad Review **I literally rolled on the floor with your Fanboy comment**) I am now proceeding with a Paypal dispute to get my money back.

Such a shame as I am now back at ground zero to find a cam kit and Diablo tuner - Have had ZERO luck finding a tuner in California

And all this guy had to do was put an away message on his business email saying he was sick/temporarily unavailable and I would still be patiently waiting.

I dont care if your the holy grail of king sh*t, if you cant even figure out that basic amount of business relationship courtesy, Im not your customer.

Generally when selling a product , information comes along with it,
But now that I think about it, that’s not always the case
I find most just want free info from me

Honestly I avoid tuning on a daily driver now. It is not worth the hassle to me. My last truck was custom tuned and while switching tunes it bricked my PCM due to a cable failure. The popular tuner for F150's at the time was also hard to get ahold of. He did try to help with "recovery tunes" but ultimately I ended up having to take the truck to the dealer to get them to reprogram the PCM to stock. Then I got a new cable and put my custom tune back and never changed it again. The whole process took almost two weeks and cost me towing and a hefty dealer gouging bill to restore my PCM. During this time I was without a vehicle. Never again.

I have hemifever and as he’s not the greatest with communication I can never really recommend him. His tunes are adequate for my needs but his responses are sometimes null. I plan on swapping over to frp. The downfall is good tuners are hard to talk to because they are always busy. That’s also why the good tuners cost more. It’ll be 1300$ for a basic tune with frp. Hp tuner, unlocked pcm, and tuning credits just to start are 1000$ Hopefully I can recoup some from my Diablo i3 and Diablo unlocked pcm when the time comes.

All tuners are busy even the not known ones, that still doesn't justify them not answering back in a timely manner ... every time I hear about Jay Green the dude is always sick, or this and that, it's always something with the guy ....

Since my truck is basically stock I am not in need of a tune and kindah pointless and with all the bad reviews about just about everyone of these guys it's kindah disheartening lol ... if I was to pay for a tune setup and I was to get no response from these guys I would go apeSh!t lol ...

Oh I fully agree about that. That’s why I stopped recommending any of them. Thankfully this should be the only vehicle I ever deal with tuning as I hope to have this truck for a long time. Plus it’s not my daily anymore since i drive a work van. My wife takes the truck occasionally if the weather is bad or if the truck has been sitting for a week. If it wasn’t for the fact I plan on doing the cam in my truck I would just leave it the way it is and never touch the tuning again.

It really sucks man to see integrity going down the hole ... these guys really scored and now that they really don't need to tune and give the customers the support they once did, they are just giving out trash tunes and saying , "if it worked for them it needs to work for you" ...

Even with their crappy tunes and horrible customer service they are still taking people's money, but they have something coming to them I can tell you that lol ... especially from their California customers who they have been ******** over .... just like Flo-Pro, there are groups putting together some class action lawsuits and it sucks because they are actually to be messing things up for those that are getting into tunning gassers, but at some point people have to say enough is enough .... they are ripping people off and doing them a disservice

the only thing Im happy with in this transaction is that he used Paypal to invoice me, so Ive now disputed and escalated the transaction as a claim with them - Ill now have to wait 2 more weeks for them to attempt to contact him - Im guessing he will ACTUALLY respond to them although maybe Im just optimistic.

Ive worked in one form or another in the online marketplace for over 20 years - good customer service is not hard to achieve - it really boils down to basic communications.

Any of these guys that start doing business and have limited success need to remember how they got there.

If they cant perform basic business relationship practices, then maybe being na entrepreneur isnt for them. Just like all guys shouldnt be welders.........
