This does get fixed in later firmware.
I'm following that thread as well, just trying to decide how much I want to risk bricking my radio.

But I'm also more tempted, as the LCD is damaged... I have a column of pixels dead, right around where Android Auto puts the "x" for canceling nav.

And I missed a little bit of the sticky crap between the digitizer and LCD, so if I push to hard, it always hits the uConnect bottom left button. (Media for me, but I think the default layout is radio)

So luckily when I bought this truck used, for the first time I paid for an extended service contract. Took it in this week to have the radio looked at, they tried to update the software and/or firmware but were unable to do it and are ordering me a new radio! No charge. Hopefully this fixes the problem. I had also found out that the navigation software would also default to volume 15, No matter how many times you turned it down, and you had to turn it down to volume one for it to be bearably soft. When I dropped it off at the service advisors desk, a technician happened to also be standing there, and said oh yeah, we hear this all the time!

OK just got home with a brand new radio installed and... no improvement. If I use the voice button on the steering wheel, navigation, or incoming call/text alerts, they all default to volume 15 no matter how many times I turn the volume down while a response is playing.

Spent a while in the garage going through every possible menu I could find, and did actually find something in the navigation settings where it showed a default volume of 15 that I could adjust. Turned it down to 1, seems to have worked for nav but not for voice commands or incoming texts.

I read somewhere that if you get a new radio installed there's a good chance it's NOT new, it's a refurbished old one.

FWIW my current application number / software version is USA-SBX-8.4-QR-39.6.0-20210405-Q0H4. So either Uconnect hasn't updated their software in 17 months, or I don't have the newest version.

Turned it down to 3, will take it for a ride and see if that works, hopefully it works for everything not just nav.
