Hunt up Matt Brown on Facebook,he was asking if anybody was interested in an unlocked PCM that he'd install a very mild tune on.I think he had some feed back on the idea,so he's probably your best option. He's not on here,so you'll have to find him on High Performance Rams or Tuned Rams on facebook.

Here's what he was saying.

Finally.
I’ve finally moved the PCM unlock equipment to the current shop.
So, to do something nice, and give back to the mopar community I’m going to do a drawing for a free PCM unlock (just cover shipping both ways)
If the winner would like, for an additional $250 we can load a base PCM tune for stock through bolt on vehicles.
This is for the unlock of the vehicles original PCM (for an additional cost we can update the VIN on a compatible PCM)
This is for 2015 and newer vehicles.
I will leave this going until 12:00am Monday morning if it doesn’t fi up sooner.
Comment the number you wish I will put 50 spots.
1 spot per person
Make your own comment for your number not as a response to someone else’s comment.
I am busy in the shop so bear with me as far as updating the list.
*unlock for HPtuners software. This should not matter for 2015-2017 but does for 2018+

Haha I entered that sweepstakes!

What's with this question then,if you already knew the answer.Matt says right on the sweepstakes you entered he'll do a few updates for most bolt on mods, for an extra $250.00,which you already mentioned you'd pay.If you remembered you entered the contest, and that you'd pay Matt's $250.00 fee,you should remember what he said, lol. If you're going to use Matt to tweak it for you,you really should be talking to him about your cam choices, not on here,as nobody on here will be tuning it for you.One option you haven't mentioned and one i think you should be considering is,and that's doing it all with stock 5.7 parts, the second cam will probably out live the truck, and that way you don't need to spring for an unlocked pcm or custom tune,as you seem to be hung up on spending the money to tune it.If you're on a tight budget, redo it with a stock 5.7 cam and new oem lifters, and call it good.Dump that watered down 5W-20 Pup for a better oil to,or bulk it up with some Lubegard, lol

I wonder if I ship my pcm out to a tuner to be unlocked they would disable mds and set my fan speed to 190° for me for little charge if that’s even possible without a tuner. I’d pay $250+ for that.

Honestly I did forget about the sweepstakes! it was the first thing I saw when I joined that group.

I’m a complete noob when it comes to the world of ram tuning. I’m not hung up so much on “the money,” but $1300 is a good chunk of change.

The difference in cost between the oem mds vs non mds parts is more than $250, so if I can delete it with just an unlocked pcm and maybe as an added bonus get my fan speed set lower for the v6 efan mod that’s totally a win in my book.

I dunno if I need to have the tuner hardware to do that or if those are settings that can be changed in the pcm itself.

I’ve asked Matt some intro questions, I appreciate the help thus far!!

In the realm of new vehicle tuning, tuning a 2015 Ram is relatively cheap in comparision. Price out what it takes to tune a brand new Corvette, you're Ram tune will seem cheap afterwards, lol. Being as you're in Scottsdale, don't go cheap on the V6 fan, spring for the factory Mopar fan, last thing you want is a cheap TYC or Dorman fan to let you down in rush hour traffic when it's 110+F

I mean the Vette itself is too expensive right now forget tuning!

I already have an efan along with my mechanical was an effort to try and reduce temps when towing. AGS delete was way more effective but hey. I’ll keep the mechanical one in the bed afterwards just in case lol.

Yes...

If I were to go to a non MDS 5.7 cam only, wouldn't I still need to unlock my PCM and pay for hardware to at least turn off MDS? Diablo Pulsar ($622)?? @HEMIMANN I just realized this is the tuner you have.. are you able to adjust fan temp also? This might be the way to go for me with the 5.7 non mds cam!!!!

The cost of custom tuning and pcm unlocking ($1300) is what kills most of these ideas for me.

Nope. No adjustments. This is why @Wild one doesn't like it, but also why it's simpler and 50 state EPA compliant. Watch what happens to the used markets now with EPA putting all the delete kit guys out of business. It's not 1970 anymore.

Pulsar Edge comes with 8 pre-canned tunes you switch with the push of a button. Good enough for me.

Are you able to turn off MDS? Set fan temp?

@Wild one Thanks for this recommendation! seems Matt is able to unlock, delete MDS, raise idle speed, change fan on temp, mild tune at half the price of HP.

For me this is the ideal solution!!

I owe you a 6 pack or something!

Well, it's $4,500 for a new cam and lifters after failure - if the shards didn't take out your whole engine. Then it's $9,500, so....

Yeah, yeah, this should never have happened but that ship sailed long ago when they designed the engine.

Save the good Redline for now.Buy a cheap oil ,run it for about 40/50 miles, then dump it and the filter and install the good oil with a new filter

It is a quagmire, it's a riddle wrapped in mystery inside an enigma. All I got to say is take in all of the info and make a decision and own it. There is no right answer here, it isn't like well the battery is dead and I'll fix it and all my issues will be solved. Hemi tick isn't a battery, to know if changing lifters and cam would fix hemi tick, you would have to know why your hemi is ticking. I felt real bad a couple months ago when I suggested a guy not fix hemi tick with a cam job and he did it anyway, and he still had hemi tick over 6 grand later. I just feel bad for the dude, so I just hand out information, could be waiting will cause a cam wipe, who knows. But then there are many examples of cam job fixing hemi tick, so who knows. Do a forum search, still ticking after new cam and lifters and read. New cam and lifters you want a regular oil and then if you want switch to redline.
Hey
What "regular" oil is there still on the market? PYB now says synthetic blend, which oil would be used before switching to synthetic?

Many car companies have moved beyond refined crude oil for engine oil, due to all the issues with it inside hot, little engines.

That's for new cars, of course, but there's less incentive for oil companies to make the old stuff along with the new, so it's becoming harder to find.

Re reading through this there’s a bunch of gaskets I left off… I’ll add those.

Is there any benefit to running the mopar performance springs to increase seat pressure with either the mds or non mds 5.7 cam?

They won't hurt, but whether you "need" them with a stock cam is the question. If you can find them and they won't kill your budget,i think they're a good investment,as they'll cut down on any lifter bounce you might encounter.

They’re $71 as long as they’re not back ordered… adding.

Hello everyone. Been looking through the 22 pages here and have found a lot of great information on the hemi tick. First off, I am new to the Ram world. Been a ford guy for many years. I just bought a 2019 Ram classic warlock With a hemi With low miles. The previous owner used Mobil 1 5w-20 with a mopar filter. i have a 2 part question for you guys. 1) anything you guys recommend me to do to “try”to avoid the hemi tick. Question 2 falls in with question 1. The op states that he did regular maintenance, did not have much idle time, took care of his motor as much as anyone could/would. The question is, if it’s true that only 5% of hemis are affected, what is the difference between the motors and what years are being affected? If the lifters do not get much oil lubrication at long idle times, how are most engines lasting close to 100,000 miles?

Fatigue failure is a statistical probability. The Hemi lubrication system is marginal - not missing altogether. High flow rate oils and filters help, as does low idling time and oil with supplemental dry film lubricant additives, as does oil change intervals of 5,000 miles max.

After that, it's luck of the draw.
