Which ever engineer designed this is a absolute moron. I have all Bolt locks, we tried 3 of my cousins as well today. All the locks block connection of the s hooks. Idk what to do… brand new truck and might have to replace the receiver with a Curt or Draw Tite. Had no idea I’d run into this issue when I bought it. Seriously I’m pretty pissed off about this. … I know you “could” connect on the side but either way s hook up or down tugging on it puts it at a very bad angle, I could only imagine what 5000lbs of force at highway speeds would do to the S Hooks, would easily twist them off. Then god forbid The coupler ever failed and s hooks failed from being hooked improperly and a fatality occurred I’d be the one in trouble for not properly securing the trailer, negligence.

Any of you guys have a work around for this receiver?

Don't know what your disillusion is about the safety hook holes and how the hooks go through there. If the hooks are kicked out sideways a little bit is the least of your worries if coupler fails.

The receiver on my 2013 1500 and on my 2015 3500 are perfect. The 2022 is not so good, why they had to make a change leaves me wanding in a vacuum of my brain.

I mistakenly bought a lock for a 2.5" receiver that is longer. I used it anyway. I had to borrow a trailer and don't remember having a problem with safety chain hooks.
I am currently waiting on trailer prices to go down before I get one. Sold my gooseneck when I traded in my 2500

My safety chains work fine with my locking pin. Plus the emergency cable also hooks up on the lock side. If I needed more room I’d use two heavy shackles.

Awesome, please share the brand and model of the locking pin. I want one.
Bolt is definitely the best one. 90% of the ones on the market can just break the lock off in 2 seconds with a pipe.

If you think this is bad look at chevy. Those you can't even get normal chain hooks as it's a double hole. I have no issue with my 22' with a lock.

The posters that claim "no issues with their 22 and a pin lock" I have a question. Why no pictures, brand name of the pin lock, and model?

I can't seem to find a pin lock that will allow better access to the safety chain holes, the holes are recessed and close to the receiver tube. The smallest profile pin lock I can find is T shaped, I can slide the pin to the left and right to gain a little more access to the chain holes and it works but is a pain. Is RAM using different styled receivers in production or is my 2022 receiver a unicorn?

I would just add a screw pin shackle if I had a problem. Trailer chain hooks and hitch lock designs vary widely, so hopefully owners are capable of selecting compatible components so they won’t become the actual moron.

I got a co worker with a 21’ Limited same as mine +/- a few options his receiver is totally different than mine. It’s oem for a fact. These receivers must be coming from multiple factories. Just browsing pics online found another one just like mine but the hole for the pin is like a inch and a half out farther than mine which would allow access for the S Hook no problem.

My tow hitch is retained in the reciever with a grade 8 5/8" bolt and lock nut. I've seen the locking pins fail a few times.
That is potentially a good idea. Wouldn’t a grade 5 be better for shearing strength vs tensile strength?

If you can’t fit the S hook on how the hell are you gonna fit a shackle on…. If you did have a 3rd party shackle on and it fails and something serious happens who’s getting blamed for improperly securing the trailer… Then on top of it you would be extending the length of the chains that could possibly create a safety issue as well cradling the tongue of the trailer.

I’d rather not take short cuts or do work arounds a lot of bad s*** could happen.

I use a Dring with the screw in pin it extends holes outside the receiver tube it doesn't extend it too much; they are very strong!!!

Here’s a picture. The lock just rotates up to clear the hooks. The gray boot covers the lock.
I don’t remember where I bought it.
