Howdy All, I'm glad to be back in a Ram Truck again. I previously had a 2015 1500 EcoDiesel, and I loved it. But I bought a camper that was right at the weight limit. The 1500 had the power, but it got scary in the wind. SO, I upgraded to a 2500 Cummins Megacab (loved that truck as well). Then I left a good job, and eventually sold the 2500 and the camper.

now I'm working M-F with a 50 mile round trip commute and wanted something more comfortable and easier on fuel. So, I bought a 2022 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4x4 with a limited slip out back. It's a pretty truck with just enough luxury items for me.

I might be interested in dropping down to an 18" or event 17" wheel and tires with a bit more meat to them. I'm old school and prefer that look to the low profile tires.

how big of a wheel is needed to clear the brakes and what is the bolt pattern and a typical offset?

I understand installing a factory brake controller is possible. is the install difficult? I understand it would have to be programmed at the dealer even if I managed the install myself.

any other things I should know about this generation 1500 or the latest EcoDiesel?

Greg

No idea on anything you asked, but cool truck! Nothing beats black when it’s clean.

I installed my factory brake controller myself and then went to the dealer to have it programmed. It wasn’t that difficult to do if you’ve done stuff like that before but it isn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever done either. The bed lights I installed were pretty easy to do also. But they also had to be programmed by the dealer. So I would add everything I thought I wanted before going so you don’t have to make several trips to the dealer for programming.

Thanks for the info. I read somewhere that there are possibly some OBD Tools "Alfa, was mentioned" that would allow me to program it. I'll check into that just in case the dealer programming starts to look expensive.

Great looking truck! From my experience I’d recommend an OEM brake controller, whether you install it or the dealer does. If they are back ordered check eBay. Also, you must be thinking of towing so look close at the PL and tow ratings. I’m sure the Eco is very capable but along with the common 3.21 axle they were designed primarily as a MPG machine.

I had a 2015 EcoDiesel that I towed with. It towed find with a decent size camper, except if there was some wind! I'd go smaller on the trailer , if I got another one. Weight didn't seem to be an issue as much as the surface area! the new truck is rated at 7900lbs with the 3.21s . I plan to stay under that number and keep the length shorter than the 35+ footer I had before. Hopefully, 5-10 feet shorter. I did like the way the OEM brake controller was integrated, so I'll try to stay with that.
