Found this in the driveway under my truck. Looks like a super clean break and very new. Anybody happen to know offhand what it is?

That one looks like it's broken flush with the cylinder head. Time to break out the welder.

Is nobody concerned that bolts are just popping out of his engine? I know cranking on them can shear them, but I've never heard of spontaneous failure.

Common issue, probably several hundred threads on here about broken exhaust manifold bolts, FCA even issued a TSB about it. Not an unusual occurance at all.

Exhaust manifolds break that's a given with any engine no way around it Gm 4.8-5.3-6.0 are bad at it to the heating and cooling cycles them bolts and manifolds go through. Heat causes metal to expand then contracts when it cools there is only so many times bolts can do this before they break

I do agree with the expansion and contractions of the metal but every engine on the planet does that and it only seems to be a big issue with ram and gm trucks. I've been a mechanic for 30 years and counting and I haven't seen a broken bolt issue on any engine other than the Hemi and gm LS. I get bolts can break when trying to remove them but randomly popping off like this I've never seen lol

Manifold bolt and manifold breakage has been an issue for as long as i can remember. My dad had a side business back in the 60's/70's brazing up and repairing broken Ford manifolds

Common, especially with todays bean counters trying to save a fraction of a penny. Bolts most probably sourced globally with questionable quality. Just my $0.0002….adjusted for inflation in B’s economy.

Exhaust manifolds made from cast iron, attached to an aluminum head results in broken manifold bolts. The difference in cooling time is more than the manifolds and bolts can take after so many heating and cooling cycles.

My previous truck was a Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0L gas. Replaced several manifold bolts on it and a very common problem as said above. I know a long time GM dealership mechanic and he does at least several a month.

Looks like this bolt has been tampered with before. Was the heat shield removed?? The small bolt that holds the heat shield to the stud is still threaded (rusted) on the stud. Whenever mine broke, they didn't just fall out because the broken part of the bolt was still attached to the heat shield and held it in place.

Also looks like the hex for tightening the bolt to the heads has some wrench marks on it.
