They are junk motors to begin with. We are replacing the 4th one this year in my shop and they are back ordered through January 6th. Love the idea, love the mileage and I've owned one myself but they are reliability nightmares.

People posting that "mine is still running" is meaningless. Its nothing more than a singular, anecdotal statement. You have to look at the full picture to get an accurate judgement.

Nahh. History shows they are a POS, looks at all the previous try’s they have had over the years.

If it wasn’t a POS they wouldn’t be cancelling it…. They would cancel the Hemi and keep a good MPG engine to curb the CAFE. Canceling a MPG engine and keeping a MPG guzzler while testing a EV is a good smoke show making no sense. There’s only way it makes sense….

If you didn’t know it’s a GM engine, look at the history.

GM was having issues to make it work
Then Gale Banks figured it out

GM owned it, then Fiat Chrysler Automotive bought 50%
Then Gale Banks was brought in to work on it
Then FCA bought GM's 50%

The engine is not going away, Stellantis is putting it in a Mercedes, etc.

I think Stellantis is moving engines around, so the U.S. Buyers are almost forced into buying the EV motors

I don’t know, don’t care, I’ve never owned one and nor did I ever want one. I figured if I ever needed a post Kommiefornia-screwed-it-all-up-for-diesels diesel powered pickup then I’d get a Cummins HD but I don’t doubt it all that the Eco has had reliability issues.

But with that said, I would’ve been much happier if that little Cummins Nissan put in the Titans would have been the little diesel for the Ram 1500s.

Surely you meant Cummins ISB4.5! ;)

Did not know the history - thanks.

Why would Fiat move it to Italy - VM Motori? Because....they're buddies?

VM Motori S.p.A. is an Italian diesel engine manufacturing company which is wholly owned by Stellantis. VM headquarters and main production facilities are located in Cento, in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

VM Motori was founded by two entrepreneurs, Claudio Vancini and Ugo Martelli (hence the "VM") in 1947.

VM merged with Stabilimenti Meccanici Triestini in Trieste in 1971, then Finmeccanica took a majority stake in the combined company. The company was referred to as "Finmeccanica VM" for many years.[1]

In 1989, Finmeccanica restructured, selling its stake in VM Motori to company managers and Midland Montague in a leveraged buyout, leaving the company with its single Cento plant.

Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) bought VM Motori in 1995. In 2000, DDC was purchased by DaimlerChrysler AG.

In 2003, Penske Corporation purchased a 51% stake in VM Motori; in 2007, Penske bought the remaining 49% from Detroit Diesel Corporation and subsequently sold 50% of it to General Motors.[2]

In September 2008, GAZ Group announced plans to purchase a 50% stake from Penske Corp,[3] but ultimately cancelled them in February 2009.[4]

On 11 February 2011, Fiat Powertrain Technologies and Penske Corporation had reached an agreement under which Fiat Powertrain would purchase Penske Corporation's fifty-percent stake in VM Motori S.p.A.[5][6]

Fiat Group Automobiles acquired the remaining 50% stake of VM Motori S.p.A. owned by General Motors,[7] on 28 October 2013.[8]
