2020 Ram Big Horn with 8.4" Uconnect. Valid and active At&T Connected Car Plan. Uconnect/SiriusXM Guardian services all working properly. WiFi network is up, and devices can connect to it, but once connected the devices report "no internet". Wasted my time talking to Uconnect who first said it was an AT&T issue (I had already talked to AT&T and they verified all of their stuff works fine), then palmed me off to SiriusXM Guardian after stating there is no update for my radio, and can't comment on if an update is planned. The SiriusXM Guardian talk was even a bigger waste of time (the SiriusXM Guardian guy "insisted I can't get internet access on my radio" then when he finally understood I was connecting to WiFi provided through the radio unit, tried to instruct me to "log into the internet", then after that tried to sell me an upgraded SiriusXM radio plan!). My question here is two-fold: 1) Is there a firmware update that the dealers have to address this issue (I've seen some forum traffic to this affect), and 2) what is the soft reboot procedure for my Uconnect system? (hoping a soft reboot might clear any glitches).

As far as I know pre-2022 uConnect 8.4 and 12 units relied on 3G for data. As you may not know 3G is dead. All providers killed that band back in February of this year to free up bandwidth for 5G expansion. I think you are better off buying an AT&T hotspot or Netgear M1 and using that for your internet.

My UCoonnect is 4G LTE, so the sunset of 3G is not the issue. I just learned yesterday directly from RamCares that there are several software updates for my radio that are needed that address a laundry list of bugs/issues with my radio. I have a service appointment to have the radio software flashed. FYI - UConnect's website that searches software updates by VIN (and their call center for that matter) said there was NO update for my radio. I did further digging after hearing back from RamCares and if you look at the UConnect map update for my radio you see it requires a newer version of the radio software to install the map update (confirming there is a radio software update). Bottom line, there is a bunch of confusion out there about these radios, but RamCares seems to know what is ground truth. If you are reading this post after a frustrating Google Search, recommend you reach out to RamCares directly if you are having similar issues.

Here you go
AT&T Plan for Ram

I already have the AT&T plan, and confirmed with At&T Connected Car tech support that the AT&T cellular data side is working fine. The issue is clearly with the WiFi router in the UConnect system not sharing the WAN connection through the cellular. Look at my reply in this thread for info about a software update being applied that should resolve.

Yeah, there's a TSB for a newer software version on the 12" units that is not published to the UConnect website. I'm not sure what their reasoning is for that, but it makes no sense.

Not sure when they updated the units to 4G. My 2020 has never received an OTA update, nor does it ever get a signal. Who knows.

I hear ya re: OTAs, I don't think mine has ever received one either and there is no apparent way to force it to check. You can purchase updates on a USB stick (with Map updates included) from UConnect, or go to the dealer to get it done. Not ideal, but I hope the update will return to function a capability I paid for (and used to work) when I purchased the truck. That said, I bought the truck to pull my travel trailer with ease (and to a degree future proof towing) not to be a 4-wheel drive mobile internet hotspot (LoL)!

There is a problem my wife and I have discovered when connecting Apple products to our Wifi hotspot in our 2022. The Apple device reads the wifi as an "unsecure signal" and needs to be allowed. We have not looked further in to it, but my daughter's Chromebook and son's older iPad work just fine on it. Hope this gives you some direction.

2018+ trucks moved to Panasonic/Aptiv 8.4+ radios with AT&T 4G LTE.

13-17 Harmon 8.4 radios were Sprint 3G which has been shut down.

Additional info/issues mentioned here

PS:
Be aware, there's a good chance dealer will charge you for SW updates... (labor/Time) since a tech has to research and download them which can take awhile. IMO it should be covered under warranty but unless you can find the related service bulletin # (TSB) they may say there's no update available as well.

We can have a further look into your Wi-fi concerns, sportsdad3boys. Send us a PM with your VIN and we can research any internal info on our end from there and instructions for a soft reset as well.

Just wanted to add, I just had my '19 2500 Laramie MegaCab Level 2 w/the 12" uConnect4 in for some warranty work on 10/14/22 and they flashed the ESC to part number 68504022AC (from previous 68334977AG) and an ABS software flash. There was a PCM flash they held off on (paperwork says "parts on backorder"). Ever since this flash done on Sept 14th my 4G LTE hotspot has not worked.

I have a system I built that gives me remote access to the truck's onboard camera and uploads dashcam video to a cloud server and openALPR. This has been working flawlessly for the past couple of years until this recent update. Ever since then my portable router just keeps coming up with 'no route to host' when trying to ping any IP address from the in-truck hotspot (same when using my laptop and other devices). I've tried with many different devices without luck (Surface Pro 8, iphone 11 pro max, several android 11 & 12 devices, raspberry pi, you name it).

I travel a lot so for now I plugged in one of my spare hotspots to hold me over but it'd be nice to get this fixed. I utilize this a ton and was a great security feature being able to access my cameras remotely whenever the truck was running.

Edit: just to add I pay for the hotspot annually and just renewed in May. I'm full up on my SiriusXM Guardian and Sirius XM subscription. I'm going back soon for a new fuel pump on the recall when it gets here (estimated next month) so I'm going to bring it up with my service advisor then. I haven't spoken with RamCares yet. I have the extended mopar maximum care plan so I'm not too concerned about it costing more than $200 to get resolved (my deductible).
