Car buddy of mine told me today he read the 4th gens were being discontinued ...but I did a quick scan and didn't see it covered anywhere. Was he smoking something?

I did, however, see Sellantis announced it was going to introduce the 4th gens in Brazil. Mfgrs sometimes move tooling to another country and continue selling an older model there. So if they move the factory and tooling down there they'd probably local production one would think.

Have you guys heard anything?

This is what I saw. But it sounds like they're going to be the same Mexican-built trucks if I'm reading the article correctly. I guess if that's the case, maybe they'll still make them avail here too for a while (??):

Makes perfect sense, and I'm surprised they still make a 4th gen now. My guess is the only reason the 4th Gen "classic" has stayed around this long is because of supply chain issues on 5th gen parts caused by the 'rona. Simply doesn't make any economic sense to manufacture two different "gens" of 1500 series trucks unless you simply can't make enough of one to supply the demand.

Having the 4th Gens is a freebie for Stellantis
They can't believe that so many Factory Orders are still coming in from private parties.
Even Fleet Orders is surpassing the gaudy 5th Gens

No Built For Use in Mexico Rams are built in the USA
I looked at one Ram 1500 with Mexico Plates, it sure looked like it had a Heavy Duty front end.
I used to spend hours waiting on semi trucks to cross the International Border, nothing to do but sit there & watch

The 4th gen is a cash cow. Tooling has long since been paid for, manufacturing processes have been refined and streamlined. Cost to build one is substantially cheaper than a 5th gen and profit margins are way higher.

Do they still build the HD's and shortbox regular cab 1500's in Mexico?

I was just wondering the same thing recently. Sometimes when I'm bored I build trucks and cars on manufacturer websites, and noticed the classic only shows 2022 while the 5th gen shows '23 also.

The Ram 1500 uses the same 2 door cab as all the Heavy Duty Rams

They use the same stamping presses & molds

That Saltillo plant has been making Dodge Ram vehicles since 1995
