I have an opportunity to buy a brand new hydro blue trx. The dealer wants 5k over sticker. Is that good for an in stock vehicle?

Vehicle sales have slowed a little. I would keep looking. There is a dealer in Florida ordering trucks 15% below msrp.

TRX's are still a highly sought after truck. The market has slowly been catching up but typically only on the "regular" line. The speacialty line is still demanding a premium. See how long it's been sitting on their lot via Carfax, if longer than 30 days, ti,e to make a better deal than that.

Normally I'd say no to ADM, but TRX.
Up to you - shop around other cities and see what they're charging. If it's worth it to you - get it.

There are a couple dealers doing 4%(?) below invoice if you are willing to order and wait. If you have to have it right now you are going to pay too much.

Look for Koon's in Tysons VA in the Vendor section. I have a 3500 on the way that I ordered through them, my 2nd vehicle (2020 Durango SRT) I've ordered through them.

If it is worth it to you and you can afford it then by all means. I would however go in there and throw the salesman pitch right back at him making him feel he has no choice but to sell you the truck below sticker and markup. Start walking out that door as he will most likely stop you on your way out

Auto sales people are the absolute **** of the earth, in my book. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.

That’s absolutely insane to ask that much or anything over msrp. The dealers are taking advantage of customers in anticipation of the next market slowdown with an impending recession. Then they will be giving them away at $10k under msrp just to get them off the lot.

I would suggest you use cars.com. You can do detailed searches and list the results as prices high to low or vice versus. They also have dealer “rankings” according to reviews. You can also increase the search radius. If you are willing to drive a little further you can often find better prices - sometimes a lot better . Or you can use what you find to dicker with. If they won’t come down I’d make the longer drive. If I were told $5k over invoice I’d tell them things that I can’t repeat here - or get kicked off this forum!

Factory order is a good idea too. Not that you’re buying what I bought but I found a Ram dealer in NC that would do a factory order for well under invoice and delivery the truck to me in MD for $300. You pay your state taxes etc and it’s titled and registered in your state.

NO!!!! it isn't. You can shop through the Internet and Email so why not? Lots of places doing far better deals, even on the TRX. Never get a Woody for a specific vehicle, the salesman can spot a, "I just got the have it now" buyer a mile off.

Believe what you wish but I can assure you that no dealer is selling a new vehicle for "well under invoice".
When the public or buyer thinks "invoice", you are equating this to be the same as "dealer cost".
True dealer cost can be a number of different things and in its final form, the dealer has never opened a deal to a customer at well under invoice, somewhat under invoice or any other supposed negative number.

You are correct but in this case I think jimjr meant to say under the window sticker/MSRP. No one sells below their cost unless the dealership is being liquidated.

One thing to watch for, a number of dealers in B.C. were caught making up "Dealer Invoices" to show customers. Pure scam that I am sure goes on lots of other places.

Invoice /= dealer cost.... You have to know holdback to get dealer cost, but generally invoice - holdback costs = actual dealer costs if the vehicle sells immediately.

Gupton in TN is reasonably close to you in Indiana, and they offer 5% under invoice on orders for Rams and Jeeps. It's no big feat to get 5%-6% off a CJDR vehicle or 3% off a Ford vehicle vs invoice. They get full holdback, it doesn't count against their allocation, and they get a chance to make money off you via the F&I office, trade-ins, etc. and it helps their volume.
