i bought a used 2014 1500 Big Horn with a 5.7 hemi and I use 87 octane gas in it. My dash computer shows the gas mileage as about 10% better than what I calculate when I divide my miles driven by the number of gallons burned. For example, my "Trip A" readout that was reset when I last filled the tank said I had averaged 19.6 MPG. My hand calculation for the same tank of gas showed that I averaged 17.6 MPG. This has been pretty consistent and the truck always reports better mileage than what I'm actually getting - never worse.

How accurate is your mileage calculator?

You own the truck. What are you going to do?

If you were do searches on this forum, you would discover many, if not most Ram owners' fuel economy calculator consistently reports slightly better results than hand calculate. Your fuel economy numbers seem better than what most report. Of course it all depends on the roads/conditions and style of driving a truck sees.

It would be interesting to see what the fuel economy would be if you ran a tank or two of 88 or 89. If you do, let us know what it turns out to be.

Sounds about right. My 2015 SLT QC 2WD showed 23.7 mpg on the evic, and hand-calculated mpg was 21.9. This was on a trip from SW FL to Charlotte, NC. Have taken a few other trips there with similar mpg.

Around home with a mix of hwy/city miles, I usually show ~ 19.5 in the evic, hand-calc is 18-ish mpg. These numbers are with Cooper 'E' rated AT tires. I can get a little better numbers if am easy on the skinny pedal, lol. I did get about 1 mpg higher in the evic with the stock SR-A tires.

AND, that 23.7 mpg number above was with 140k miles on the truck. I run 87 octane almost exclusively, and I am sitting at 151k miles as of now.

I run almost exclusively 88 octane e15 fuel. Yes, my dash monitor regularly reports higher than actual by 5-10%

Mine isPretty close, but I go by litres per 100km at 12.8 this trip. Is mpg based on US or imperial gallon since there's a fair difference between them? It's just over 18 miles per us gallon or just over 22 miles per imperial gallon.

Go into your Evic "settings" you can change to mpg,and it should be in the US gallon

17 hwy 13-15 around town. 12 towing the sled trailer. I need new shoes... that should help. Or maybe I should drop it down below 85 on the highway... That would help too...... :Big Laugh:

Mine usually shows 5-10% higher than actual mileage. But on my list trip it was dead on accurate (2 different tankfulls). I have no idea what changed. It might go right back to 5-10% off.

your result is normal. Don’t think about it or buy a Prius. These are the two paths to happiness under current regime.

There are variables that make hand calculating less accurate. When you hand calculate it are you always getting gas at the same station & same pump? Do you top it off or stop when the pump turns off the 1st time?

I watch Fast Lane Trucks on YouTube & they make tons of videos with all brands of trucks. Whenever they test mpg they fill until it stops, wait 30 seconds then start the pump again until it clicks off then record the gallons. Probably best to use slower pump speeds to avoid it stopping too soon.
After their drive they go back to the same pump and repeat the above process

Lie-o-meter always off. But you have to take into account warm up times, cool down times (remote starting), sitting, drive habits, towing etc. I get 13-18 in city, 17-21 ish on Highway, if running cruise, stay reasonable under 75, and 70 if possible. But in TX on Hwy, everybody running 85 mph, so that drop you down to 17 ish. 2019 5.7, early DT build (no E ne thing), have heavier AT3W tires, motor stock.

TX - NC - NJ - DE - NC - TX with side trips etc.,. (All hand calc off of odometer, receipts)
4050 miles trip, 89 octane gas, 194 gallons used, hills, mountains, flat, traffic, etc. Wat I got on trip but did have stock SRA balloon tires on during the trip, after I first bought truck. (mpg 20.87628865979381)
