I know there aren’t any fobs in stock at any mopar parts sites, but I’m 4 for 4 on successfully programming this fob:
I picked a new fob at batteries plus. Cheaper than the dealer.

I always just keep the fob in my pocket
A few times as I leave the truck after hitting the lock on the door, it will beep at my and I have to relock the door as I leave
I have had the computer not respond to the fobs a couple of times and had to use the key
One time I didn’t have it with me and had to call wife
That’s not a good thing late at night

Like said earlier, you pretty much have to be on a mission to lock the fob in the truck. Also, if the truck is running, and the fob is inside, and the door is open, the door lock switch won’t even respond to the lock button being pressed. The only situation you can do that is if the truck is in a remote start event.
The door lock switch won't work but if you push down the silver lock tab that pops up and down, either on purpose or by accident it WILL lock and stay locked. I know more than one guy that has locked their truck with the motor running by accidentally hitting that thing with an elbow.

I don't like that these trucks will let you lock it with the fob inside. We have two Mazda CX5's and neither one will let you lock the fob inside! Wish Ram would do this as well.

There's no way I'd trust the truck not to lock under certain circumstances. I get why some people don't want to have to carry their fob everywhere they go. Such as going swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc. I guess that's why I have an older rig with an actual key for those purposes. Doesn't matter if the key gets wet. Not sure what we'd do if I had to take the Ram. Maybe pull the battery from the fob and find some place on the truck to hide it.

Yup, had this happen once while camping. I had just purchased my 2019 Ram 1500 Classic and the day before heading out camping with The Beast, I activated the Sirius connect that, among other things, gives you the ability to lock/unlock your doors and start your truck up from pretty much anywhere in the world (I say pretty much anywhere as you still need to have an internet connection for your cell phone).

This came in REAL handy as the day we were packing up from a great camping trip, I somehow locked my key/fob in the truck. We all said sone choice 4 letter words, started to go over our options, when I remember about the service. The only problem was that where we were we had next to no internet service.

EXCEPT down at the beach... So I grabbed one of our kids bikes and made a bee-line down to the beach as we needed to be out of our camp site within the next hour and a half. Once at the beach, I confirmed internet connection, hit unlock and received confirmation! And just to try out a few other features, I stared the truck and honk the horn. Both of which had my wife and kids freak out on me when I got back as they weren't expecting either. The horn honking in particular got my wife worked up. LOL!

I did not subscribe to the service after the free 1st year, BUT, I did get multiple keys cut for the door to which one is always on my other set of keys (I don't keep anything other than truck related keys on my truck key/fob for security). Since that day, I actually had to use the key once.

Best couple of bucks I ever spent!!

If you started the truck remotely, should have locked you out again
Last time I locked myself out was on my 2005 ram, a friend standing there opened the door with a screw driver under the door handle in a couple seconds, never really figured that out
PS ,I think you can start the truck with no battery in the fob, you push the start button with the fob and it starts, But could not open doors, but has been a while since I was playing with it, on my 2014 sport, keyless entry.

While it is true that if you have a push button start the truck will not lock with your key in it, you can lock your key in the bed. I learned this the hard way. My truck has a Tonneau Cover with a metal bottom. I had my key in my golf bag and since I was close to my locked truck it allowed me to open the tailgate. Put my golf bag in the truck bed, shut the tailgate and you can guess the rest. :(

Keep your fobs in a little cookie tin at home, it acts like a little Faraday cage. I keep my fobs in the tin can whenever I'm not using them.

Yes, that's true. But my comment about pulling the battery was for hiding the fob somewhere on the outside of the truck, without the need for a faraday bag. I can think of lots of places to hide it. But if you hide it with the battery installed, depending on where its hidden, someone could possibly open the doors and start the truck without even removing it from its hiding place.

On my 2017 PW with push button start, if I lock it with the fob or the button on the door handle, then try to unlock it with the factory valet key, it sets off the panic feature. I can use the valet key to open my Ramboxes with no issue, but not the cab door. Is that different for everyone else?

Yes I see your point , taking the battery out should disable the door? Better check.
regarding next post , yes I have set off the alarm, it will stop when you start the truck

I think if it was by back bumper, it would be out of range, be the first place I would look

I can be in my house, with a metal roof, 50 feet or more away in Kitchen and can still remote start. Depends upon factors like clear view, roof, electronics in area, etc.,. But I do not even open front door, grab keys in kitchen, hit remote, and wala. Heck, in a big parking lot like Walmart, parked near front of row, walk out door of store, hit button and truck open/start, just depends.

Haha...with the battery out it doesn't matter where it's hidden. Definitely wouldn't be in the back bumper area. That's too obvious. It doesn't have to be hidden really well, just out of sight. The point is to slow any potential thief down to the point that they move on to another target. Not to mention the fact that no one would even know there is a key hidden somewhere on the truck. So they wouldn't think to even look for one.

It is a bad idea to hide a fob on the outside of truck. First, it will not
like the elements, and if found by a thief, they can open it and drive off.

Get a key made and hide that, then you can open it and use the fob inside.
The key alone is of no use to the thief, to steal the vehicle.
