the DEF Tank in your Ram has a heater coil inside of it

Even if your tank is frozen, the system will still work long enough for the liquid to begin melting

Also it has a lower freezing point than water. It freezes at 12°f / -11°c

Lots of comments here on DEF and some good info as well. I'll be the "odd man in" after using a jug of SuperTech DEF from (of course) Wal-Mart a few years ago. Everything seemed OK for a while after adding it (which brought my gauge reading up to ~3/4), then I started getting DEF system error messages. Took the truck to the dealership (under warranty) and they found a cruddy DEF injector. Rather than replace it for ~$300 plus labor, the tech cleaned and polished it to new condition and re-installed it. I have experienced no real problems with it since then, but immediately switched back to the Peak BlueDEF.

Moving ahead to this summer and thirty thousand miles later, I had a DEF error appear while towing. Not knowing when the last regeneration had taken place, I stopped in to a local shop, had the code cleared, and went on my way. I figured if the error happened again, I would be close enough to home and the dealership anyway. The error message never came back and the truck continued to run as it should. Per the advice of the dealership service advisor, I allow the level to reach ~1/4 full before adding a jug of DEF.

Never mind.
watched a mind-numbing YouTube video on ot, pulled the fill line, pur 3 foot of 1/4” tygon into tank and didn’t get a drop out. Where did it go? Gauge reads full? DEF I used was 3 months old.
it’s off to the dealer with my 100k warranty still good If I can make it from TN to MD

***************

How does one drain the tank?

got wrong DEF code yesterday.
got check engine light today.
got service DEF system see dealer warning few minutes later.
I then got the 5mph warning but truck’s running at spe no problem.

am south of Columbia TN. Plan on calling dealers in AM.

but if it’s a drain and fill and clear codes, i can try that.

thanks

Does the DEF heater engage when you plug in the block tank heater? My truck sits outside and it can can ver cold where I live. Sometimes -30 degrees outside. Want ensue the DEF in the tank does not freeze when temps are extremely cold.
