I will find out tomorrow from the mechanic shop whether there was metal in the oil control valve. Hopefully not so i can just replace the cam and lifters. Not familiar with the mds delete? Since you mentioned it, I assume it is something that I should have them do as well?
Well there was metal in the oil. So i am not going to replace the lifters and camshaft. I am going to replace the engine with a Jasper. Do I go with the engine with the delete kit? It is about $800 dollars more than regular engine

You'll have to have it tuned if you decide to delete the MDS,otherwise you'll have a constant check engine light. If you have no plans to tune it,stick with the MDS version. Lots of horror stories lately about Jasper engines, and it appears to be a crap shoot if you get a good one or not from them these days.

Actually if you get the MDS delete option it comes with a Diablo Programmer with the MDS Delete tune

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. I know this year is famous for this issue.

I had a cylinder 3 misfire code. I took it in to get it diagnosed and have a bad lifter and cam shaft.

The vehicle is in great shape with only 134,000 miles.

Is it worth just changing out the lifters and cam shaft? or get a re-manufactured engine to replace?

That must of been quite awhile ago,as i don't think you're buying cam / lifters / head bolts / cam bolt / gaskets and fluids for $250 now.

I just had my lifters and cam replaced last year at a dealer. It was only 5,400 vs 10k for a new motor.

It all depends on $. If you have the $5,000. + to invest in a new engine or rebuilt and the truck is in excellent condition, then is it's a toss up. If it has normal ware I would Triade it in or have the engine fixed which should might run close to $2,500 and up. Hard choice I know. My 17 has 113,700 miles on it and I have done everything by the book because I have the MOPAR extended warranty. At 120,000 I have to have ALL the axles fluids changed and the transfer case and trans. $600. min. Keeping a truck running right is not cheap, but cheaper than a new one.

Just started driving my MDS delete Jasper rebuild. Maybe 50 miles on it now. Put it in my 2013 RAM 1500. Seems to have less throttle power than the original engine that had a misfire in cyl 3. Also, it’s only averaging 9-10 miles/gallon compared to 13-14 in the original engine. I figured i’d have better mileage and power with the Jasper. Any thoughts?

Could be one of those that has problems off the line. Are you a certified installer? thought they only shipped and allowed shops to install. Something seems to be wrong with it. Would do a deep dive.
