I read somewhere Toyota went to all 0w oils to force synthetic oil to be used in all their vehicles. Cant remember where I read that tho. I doubt its for fuel economy, the difference between a 0w and 5w is negligible at best.
Someone posted it, at some point redline should have a 0w16.

I just add a little water to my 0w20 to thin it down...Someone posted it, at some point redline should have a 0w16.
0w-20 for the NA 2.5L mazdasSame @Burla - I'm using 5W-30 in wife's Mazda CX-5 with 2.5L I4 engine. Mazda calls for 5W-30 in this motor because it's turbocharged. I believe the non-turbo versions call for 5W-20, but not positive I remember accurately.
Toyota holds firm to the 0W's for some reason. Maybe it's for U.S. EPA, but since Toyota makes principally small vehicles, why would they need to? Very strange.
I had an old 1996 Toyota Tercel that had about 100,000 miles and was using 5W30 more than I liked. I started running the Quaker State 5W50 Synthetic in that little 4 banger and it loved it. Ran quiet and used very little oil. I sold it to a buddies niece with about 190,000 miles on it and she drove it another 5 years before she gave it to her nephew and he destroyed it. I don't understand the need for 0W16 oil.Just throw some 15w40 in
with all certainly they will, once they figure out they cant get negative viscosity they will launch all the nukes for the planets sake.So is it more marketing than logic that the numbers are 0W16 instead of 0W15? Will we see 0W14 / 0w13 and so on in the future just so every car manufacturer get there own?

I had no idea they were actually getting this narrow in specs!
I guess one of these days one of ram forum's uoa's will show up with 800ppm moly, and then eventually they all will be. Maybe it will be 0w30 first since they seams to have a shortage, maybe this will get new formula out there first, dunno?
Mike,Do you have the letter from Dave way back stating what was changing on 0W-30?
Thought they originally were gonna drop moly way down, in addition to API SP additive changes?
