I know this subject has been discussed at great length, sorry to add to it. Does anyone have a roughly 50kmi truck with hour numbers they actually believe? Im changing my EVIC and want to put in reasonable numbers. How about a national average speed to calculate something close? TIA.

You should be able to calculate one yourself from any mileage if you just want a guesstimate.

Thats kind of what I'm asking, what average speed is reasonable to use for calculations? I know each truck will be unique, but is there a general rule? 35mph as a lifetime average?

So what did your EVIC say before you needed to replace it. Would seem to me to be about the best place to start. Outside of that the possibilities are all over the place depending on use. Mine shows idle time of 8% because it doesn't hardly ever sit idling, other guys I know are over 25%. Same applies to runtime, are you running at 30 mph, or 80 mph most of the time.

All in I would say the most critical issue is getting the miles right. The split between idle and run time is not nearly as critical unless the truck sits on a job site and idles 18 hours a day..

1500-1600hrs for 50kmi with avg mph of 30-35mph

But if you idle more it could easily be 2500hrs with an average of 20mph. For this it could be 1700hrs driving 800hrs idle.

What did the old cluster say? It might not of been off at all. You might idle too much.

Fair enough, here are some examples...

The pic in my post was my original EVIC. If it was accurate, my lifetime mph average was around 120! I just wanted to put in numbers that could be believed with the new EVIC.

I'm not sure but I'm not sure if it calculates a lifetime MPH. Only on the trip which can be tricked...

I was calculating lifetime MPH based on total miles and total hours, just asking if there was a "normal" average. As stated in my original post, mine would calculate to near 120 MPH, which was clearly wrong. Also, my idle hours were about 4x my drive hours. I bought the truck used, but this still didn't make sense as it had 30kmi when I bought it.

My last truck averaged 40 mph so easy to divide the odometer mileage by 40 to have the engine hours. I only use engine hours to decide on motor oil changes and use fuel consumption to decide when to change the fuel filter. So if you put in a hours value it is not all that important going forward.

I agree that it's not a big deal, but having the ability to change it (alfaobd) and installing a new EVIC, I wanted to put in something believable. I put in my actual mileage correctly, far more important in my opinion.

It looks as if the OP had what just happened to me. My idle hours stayed but my drive hours drop back to double digits. I only had around 1100 or 1200 hours.

Is this a sign of possible problems?

Is the driven hours able to be reset by mistake or something when connected to Dealer computers for regular diagnostics?

It has given me some concern as I do not know how its controlled and I'm concerned it may be reflecting an ECU issue.

I only have 31000 miles on the truck and it happen in the last 1000 or so miles.

35 mph is a mixed average, 40 mph for more highway usage.

In industry, we used 40 mph to convert automotive-specific maintenance requirements into hours-based for engines.

Thanks. I think I used some random number like 37.2 mph. It will be close enough if anyone ever checks.
