I noticed that the air dam on the 2019 Ram 1500 I recently bought is always down. I double checked that it is in fact the active air dam. I can fold/rotate the air dam up manually but it falls right back down. As for the active grille shutter, the description of the feature says that every time you start the truck the AGS runs a calibration test and opens and closes the shutters (to calibrate tolerances and as a way to ensure it is functioning). However, mine are motionless and stuck in the open position when I start my truck. Any suggestions??

I have not checked my AGS

I do know that with the right scan tool, the AGS will run through the cycles
Seems like the Air Dam could also work with that same scan tool

The tool that i have does not have those functions

I just read that the air dam drops at 35 mph

Well if you aren't having any codes, then someone must have rigged them to be in those positions or they popped out of place.
Shutters should be closed with a cold motor, no AC on, cold trans.

That’s why I was wondering if maybe it was a bad fuse. Both the air dam and the shutters are on the same fuse, right?

Not sure, do you have a check engine light on?

Does the air dam have any resistance when you fold it up? There's a motor on it so there should be some I would think.

I am not sure on the 5th gen, but on the 4th gen , if you remove the rubber/plastic cover up top by the hood latch, you can see the entire AGS system pretty clearly.
Look and see if the motor is connected to it or not. Usually you need the top and bottom slats connected to not throw a fault or a modded motor setup to not see a fault.

Same with the air dam - look at the motor area and see if it is all intact.

Not really. It folds/rotates into the tucked in position pretty easily and then just falls back down. Broken motor you think?

It could be a broken motor or disconnected from the motor.
I would start with a visual inspection of both the air dam and the AGS - just seems odd both are broken and neither is throwing a code.

U11E9 fault code

Although listed as an Active Grill Shutter fault, the Active Air Dam shares the same LIN circuit. So a AAD fault will generate a U11E9.

Last August I had this problem and tech. replaced the AAD module and since there was water in the connector he packed it with dielectric grease.

Today I received a notice from FCA USA informing me that the warranty on the Active Air Dam module has been extended eight (8) years due to water intrusion. This applies only to certain VINs in 2019.

This letter is to inform you that the warranty period for your vehicle's Active Air Dam has been extended - to 8 years / unlimited miles for vehicles already out of the warranty period. This warranty extension on

the Active Air Dam applies to certain 2019 Ram 1500 Pickup vehicles. Our records show that you either own or lease one of the vehicles affected by this warranty extension.

We are extending the warranty period on the Active Air Dam because some of the vehicles within the above referenced population may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination due to water intrusion into the motor circuit. If you are experiencing this condition now, or if you experience them in the future, simply contact your dealer to have the appropriate repairs performed.

Conversely, if you do not experience this condition, then your Active Air Dam is operating

correctly and no repair is necessary.

If you have already experienced this condition and previously paid for a repair, you may be eligible to receive a reimbursement. Visit www.fcarecallreimbursement.com to submit an online reimbursement request. You may also complete the enclosed Customer Reimbursement Claim Form and send your original receipts, invoices and/or repair order to the following address for reimbursement. Your claim will be acted upon within 60 days of receipt:

FCA US LLC Customer Center

P.O. Box 21-8004 Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8004

Attn: Reimbursement

If you have questions or need any assistance, please contact your dealer or the FCA US LLC Customer Care. FCA US LLC Customer Care is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. They can be reached at: 1-866-726-4636 or 1-866-RAM-INFO.

Please keep this letter in your glove box along with your vehicle's other warranty information for future reference if necessary. This warranty extension applies only to the Active Air Dam condition described above; the other terms and the "What's Not Covered" items of your warranty remain the same as stated in your Warranty Information book.

FCA US LLC is taking this action to demonstrate its commitment to your continued satisfaction

I’ll be honest with you, I wish mine would stick open and not give me a CEL. I think the truck runs too hot with it closed. Especially in the summer or while towing.
