Picked it up yesterday (2nd pic...lol)........and it's a whole lot of beast.......even in sport mode.................upgrade from a 2015 SRT 392

14340.jpeg

......to a 2020 Hellcat Redeye Widebody.

This was taken on the drive home......and even with traffic (4-5 mph for 30 min at a time....) as well as a few 'get out of my way' hammer moments.....still knocked down 21 mpg.

2020, sold 4/27/21....so only been registered a little over a year, 13k on the clock..............

Finding a hellcat redeye at a dealer is all but impossible....but a widebody AND with the optional 3.09 rear gear ta boot ??? (the 3.09 gear is no longer available in the widebody)

And I can tell you....it is a beast !!! I got on it once so far in sport mode - this was like 2/3 throttle with most of the safety nannies still engaged - she spun hard (instant tire smoke all over the place) and sashayed back & forth for as long as I held the pedal down.......only time she stopped spinning was the shift.

Still getting use to her. tho.........going from 485 hp to 797 hp is a leap for sure....even with much wider tires. and a wider stance.......

Are you sure about that rear gear,i thought the 3.09 was the standard gear in the Red-Eyes/Demons/Super Stocks, and 2.62 in the 717 horse Hellcats. Beautiful Red Eye though, love the colour

Is that all the gear the hellcat has? 2.62?

I have a 2020 Charger HCWB and for the most part the 2.62 works just fine. With the 8 speed having a really low first gear it shifts to second really quick. I don't think you can hit more than 50 in second. FYI, is Sport mode it will let you roast the tires until you start to get out of the straight line. Track Traction Control lets the tires spin to a point but will let you slide sideways a lot more.

I had it in sport mode once and hit it pretty good and just roasted the tires doing 60. LOL20211023_125236.jpg20210126_164606.jpg

it seems as though the concentration of today's manufacturers is to add more low gear to the trans and keep the rear high (numerically low), so they can get the launch AND get the fuel mileage.

How's the do you reckon the passing confidence compares between the two on a 60mph, 2-lane road? My 335hp Camaro was not bad. For reference, I won't pass in my wife's Mazda unless I can see a solid mile with no oncoming traffic. I've always wondered how much hp is enough for for me not to notice if I got more... I'm probably an occassionaly, mildly-spirited driver.

Gotta remember, the ZF trans has an unholy first gear (8HP90 is 4.71). With that kind of gear ratio split (6 of them not including the double OD), you can't have too much diff ratio or 1st is useless. Even the older 707hp 'cats were knocking down low 11's (street tires) and very high 10's (drag radials) with the stock 2.62's and then get to turn around and actually do 20+ mpg highway.
It's a problem I'm looking at as I gather parts for the ZF swap in my truck because I have 4.56's.......combined with an 8HP70's 4.69 1st gear (compared to an RFE's 3.00); great if I wanna haul ocean liners up on the beach at low tide but not so much for every day driving. I may have to regear.

Nice, great you were able to swing it and get a heck of a ride. Drive it, enjoy it, maintain it, and keep the rubber-side down.

(Make BOIRD a lil jealous), but not something I can ever do, lottery numbers suk, but I also use my extra money (what lil I got since ********/retired), on property, BUT DANG NICE !!!!!!!!

That's what's in the 707 and 717 horse standard Hellcats, along with the 300C's with the 5.7's. The 6.4 automatic Scatpacks also get the 3.09's,while the Scatpacks with the 6 speed manual get 3.90's,and no MDS.

In 2020 it was the optional gear...it may be standard on some years, but I know the 2022 models only get 2.62...3.09 is only an option on the redeye.........not hellcat, hellcat wb or the redeye wb anymore

It looks like you're right,i stand corrected. I've never ran into a Red Eye with the 2.62's though.

3.09 — asymmetric limited-slip, performance-tuned (optional on SRT Hellcat Redeye, standard on SRT Super Stock)

SRT Hellcat Redeye shows up race-ready with standard Torque Reserve, SRT Power Chiller® and After-Run Chiller, all grabbed from the SRT Demon archives. Two final drive ratios are offered: a standard 2.62:1 or available 3.09:1 for increased launch capability.

I will say this....even in auto drive mode, which is the most restrictive mode (full traction control....all the safety nannies in place)...............if you punch it more than 3/4 throttle, it WILL break the tires loose and leave twin black marks at 65 mph.........I did not expect that in auto mode at all......had to backpedal to get them to stick at 70 !!!
