Hey y’all!

So I was speaking with my father in law, he replaced his stock transmission cooler with an aftermarket one because the reason was that he wanted to make sure his transmission stays cool during his hauls during hot times or up hills (recently had to replace his transmission for a newer one, hefty price). He owns an 09 GMC so he is dealing with that but, I plan to do some hauling from CA to Colorado so would it be a good idea to replace the stock one I have just for good measure? Are the transmission coolers faulty on the 3rd gen 09 hemi ram 1500s? Googling has been giving me mixed opinions.

They aren't faulty, but additional cooling capacity on your transmission is never a bad thing.
I would run it in series with the stock transmission cooler.

Data point:
i pull an 33ft 6klb Travel trailer with my 2500 CTD... every time (almost every) i climb a big hill, i switch the dash to the trans temp. its pretty solid at 170'. Stock cooler. 60-70mph up the hill.

Apples to oranges, my man. You're talking about a 2500, which alone nets a completely different trans cooling package. Add the CTD which gets you a massive radiator and everything changes.

To the OP, if your truck came with the factory tow package (I'm not talking just a hitch in the back, I mean factory HD cooling, integrated brake controller, the works), then everything is likely just fine as is. However, as Paco points out, it's never a bad thing on a transmission that's going to see a lot of work (and therefore a lot of heat) to have extra cooling capacity. Just make SURE you get all your lines sealed back up well - having a fitting come apart in the middle of nowhere will NOT be fun.

Ok great, my previous 2015 1500 5.7 had same results... with factory tow package.
