The Wests coast gas shortage has caused gas prices to jump 70 cents a gallon this week here in Portland OR Metro area, Diesel prices are holding steady...

With their electrifuckation motive with cars, you'd think there would be an abundance of extra fuel.

Thanks to members validating Red Line as superb for Harley's. I pretty much knew that from reading up on it, but thanks.

So - the economic and oil pundits have been explaining that since the collapse of the oil fracking market with pandemic demand, the big oil companies shut down their oldest, most inefficient refineries - PERMANENTLY - due to forecasters telling them they would no longer be needed - EVER again.

Oops.

There is no shortage of raw material, crude oil or natural gas. There is a shortage of finished fuel and lube.

Redline, kills hemi tick and dampens clunks, who knew?

Confirmed for me today. Took bike out - couldn't hear engine at all anymore - no clanking valve train or piston slap. Transmission gear whir was muffled. Transmission shifting no longer a loud thunk, just a light clack.

Amazing. Now the damn thing is too quiet (latest engine = Milwaukee 8). Time to install torque cam next spring and see what that does. Aftermarket mufflers are expensive with catalysts (required to maintain EPA certification for re-sale).

20W-50 for big air-cooled V-Twin engines.

Not sure what their transmission & chaincase/clutch oils are. They felt and smelled like API GL-4 SAE 90 Gear Lubes. I suspect they spike the chaincase/clutch oil with some friction modifier additive for the manual clutch, but it doesn't stink.

No additives in the primary. We generally used the engine oil in the primary. I don't know about the newer stuff, but Harley used to push Screamin' Beagle engine oil even for the trans. In loaded down baggers this resulted in scorched bearings and damaged internals. Just stupid. We would NOT do it, except for Harley cultists who supplied their own materials, I would type a disclaimer on the work order and make them sign it.

I think these gas companies use any excuse to raise gas prices. Here in northern Nevada we too are feeling a big increase in gas prices. Basically if you take away the government tax cut they implemented to reduce gas prices it would be at its absolute highest it’s ever been. **** those greedy $as hats

We are down to $7.15 a gallon. Top was this spring: $8.18 a gallon (with todays currency and that's a bad one. record high for us)
But I scored 2 cases of Red Line oil for $15 a quart from a friends car repair shop

Huh. Well, Red Line has a different oil for each of the three holes, so I was just speculating what the differences could be. Clearly the transmission and chaincase don't need detergent / dispersant additive, as is the case with any vehicle transmission. But the chaincase has the clutch, and the transmission doesn't, so that's the only difference I could see.

And yes, manual transmissions usually spec a API GL-4 gear oil. My observation is it felt like a 90 wt viscosity, as did the chaincase oil. They didn't smell any different to me.

Always liked him, a great actor who left us way too soon! “What we have here is a failure to communicate!”
Didnt even think of that, newman was in both of those shows as well.

Ah shot out to grip rite number 305 stainless. Put a washer on them, no joke this puppy was bending a pressure treated 2 x 12 back to right and true just like a lag bolt will. Not bad for a freaking wood screw. I had over 50 bucks in lag screws and that was about 60% of what I needed, so I was able to replace the 40% with these and some strategic placement decisions. I used it on a whim, and when it grabbed that hard I was pleasantly surprised. Yes I did need a impact drill, the regular drill wouldn't bring the boards together, but the impact drill did with relative ease. I had been sitting on those screws for years, bought them when a hardware store went out of biz, ah I love it when a plan comes together.
