Will I regret not getting the V8 even if I don’t tow? Debating which truck to get…

My son-in-law has a v6 and says its good, as long as he doesn’t tow anything heavy. Pulling a large atv and utility trailer up hill is a big issue for it.
His next truck will be a V8

Personally I wouldn’t consider a v6. I’d rather have more than i need than need more than i have. Just my opinion. Good luck

Depends. I have an 18, with a v6 and 3.55 gears. Tow capacity is 7500ish. I have a 28’ camper I pull with it. Slow up mountains in PA, but it makes it. I’ve gone about 7 hours away to Finger Lakes through the Poconos. No overheating or any other issues.

Lifted with 35s I am still getting 19-20 mpg.

Definitely don’t get 3.21s with a V6 if you may tow. Or want tires any bigger than stock at all.

And don’t forget. The v6 now has more horsepower than some of the V8s for years ago.

The one I’m looking at is V6 with 3.21. Bad???

I’d stay away from 3.21s unless you plan on leaving it completely stock and WILL NOT tow anything at all. Tow capacity with 3.21s is like 4K. Those gears are for gas mileage only.

I’d stay away from 3.21s regardless of what engine you pick.

Looks like the Hemi comes with 3.21 too. I may just put some all-terrains on it that’s it.

If you get the 3.0 diesel V6 you won't miss the hemi when towing, and you'll get better fuel mileage than the gas V6.

I just picked up a 2020 1500 Laramie with the e torque V8. Wasn’t planning on a V8 or The e torque . It doesn’t make a difference to me as I don’t actively used it, but the V8 performance is something else again. The power is there all the time wether I tow or not and I don’t plan on towing.

Think back to pre-2013 and some 2013 RAM trucks, when they offered the Hemi coupled to a 6-speed transmission and 3:92 axel ratios. Then consider the 2013 and on-up with the ZF 8-speed coupled to 3:21 axle ratios. Which driveline combo do you think offered more pulling torque?

If you answered the second choice, winner-winner chicken dinner.

I would fork out the additional 4k for the V8. No replacement for displacement.
Besides, every time you are at the lights and a V8 passes you by, you will hear it and sort of regret not getting it.
Sure the V6 will give you good mileage. There are mixed reviews on it. A friend of mine had a V6 charger and got horrible mileage compared to the other cars he had. That V6 was incredibly underpowered. He regretted on getting the V8.

When I got my truck, fortunately the V8 was the only option at the dealership. I'm pretty happy with it.

If fuel economy is important for you, then I would go for the diesel option. Good fuel economy and a decently amount of power for towing and other stuff.

What year Charger? I have a '12 with a V6. Gets 22-25 mpg around town. I've gotten 38 mpg on the highway on a trip from PA to FL. Has plenty of power for on the road, wouldn't take it to a drag strip though.

Oh and it has 190k on it.

I have a 6.4L that used to pull an 18ft enclosed, but now is a daily driver since swapping over to cummins for a work truck. If you think you may pull or haul heavy loads at some point, it's beneficial to have, but it will drink more fuel either way and be more expensive to repair. I'm not familiar with the eco diesel and their issues, but might be worth looking into!
