I would like to attempt to change the plugs on my '04 5.7 hemi but changing the plugs on the two cylinders under the brake booster make me quiver at the thought of dropping the plugs into the wells and changing the gap or worse yet not being able to retrieve the plugs. How deep are the wells? Someone has instructions on how to insert one tool at a time. What length of extension would I need to be sure I don't need two extensions withing the well? Fear and loathing in Kansas City.

I use a piece of rubber hose as an extension. Stick the end of the plug in a hose just big enough to grip it, get the threads started and just pull it off. Hose gives you better feel at your fingers than a socket will.

I have done it several times with no problem using a spark plug socket. Just make sure the rubber in the socket holds the plug.

I use a 3/8 ratchet with 4" extension and a swivel, along with a spark plug socket. Gets in there easily. I hand turn the extension until the threads are engaged.

Gearwrench 80546, about $15 bucks on amazon.

Btw, there shouldn't be Iridium plugs in there, unless upgraded.

But anyway, that tool is worth its weight in gold.
