Hello,

Here's my recently purchased 1986 D150 Royal SE. It has a 318 and auto trans.

Seems solid and drives pretty well.

Current issues:
- power windows don't work (motor works in passenger side, but window just clicks, goes down some, and won't go back up)
- missing ash tray
- aftermarket radio doesn't work. I'm going to put a stock Chrysler radio back in
- speedometer flops around about 10 MPH each way of whatever speed I'm going.
- cracked windshield

I'll be fixing the windows, painting the wheels and putting new chrome lugnuts on, doing some weatherstrip replacement, new carpet, seat cover, and putting in new stock headlights--those LED things aren't my style.

I do have a couple of questions:

1. Where is the jack supposed to be on these? I see the lug wrench and jack handle, but not where the jack is supposed to be.

2. Power locks? I have door lock knobs that say "power lock" on the top. Not sure if they're stock or not. I can't see any power lock buttons anywhere though.

Glad to be here!
Brent

Your jack should be under the hood on the passenger side by the radiator/core support. Even if the jack is missing the clamp should be there.

On the power locks, there is no lock button. When you push down on the lock knob it should electronically lock both doors.

FWIW, this info is based on my '85 W150 Royal SE.

I suggest H4 conversion lamps, or stay with LED despite the light being a bit odd. Maybe it's since hitting middle age, but stock sealed beams don't cut it for me at night anymore.

The speedometer cable may just need a little lube. As for the headlights, if you don't like the look of any LED models, check out Hella (E) code model, and go with a good H4 bulb. The light will look stock. I love the style of that truck. This was my 85 Royal SE 4x4, and I had the 360 which was one thirsty engine..

I put some new sylvania headlights in. Also, I found an old bottle jack from a F-150 that I had grabbed in a junkyard and mounted it where the OEM jack used to be.

I like your truck. I want to ask a question here . Someone posted pictures of those repair manuals .. Haynes I believe...Will one of those manuals tell you what wires coming out of the window motors .. is the ground wire & which wire is up positive & which wire is down positive.
... I need to work on my window motors .
Thanks Sorry for hijacking your post but It's on the same subject I believe.
thanks .

Handsome truck.

As to the speedometer there are three places that could be the problem. The easiest thing to try is to replace the speedometer cable. If that's not it, you might need to get the gauge itself rebuilt or the gear just inside of the transmission that the cable gets its spin from.
