If it blows up, they will fix it, if it’s still in warranty, and they don’t find the smallest excuse to get out of said warranty….

I have done a few things to improve the longevity of my truck. First things first, change the oil pump to a hellcat 6.2 oil pump. Then get a set of headers, get them installed asap before the manifold studs break. Get a handheld tuner that can adjust the idle speed to 750/800. Last but not least, At 35K miles or every 3 years change every single fluid that is in the ram. Every thing. Trans transfer case, front and rear diff, Brake fluid , coolant, and if you have

Well, I stopped into the local dealer today and talked to the service writer and to a tech guy. Both agreed that my oil pressure is in spec and there are no worries. I asked about changing to 5w30 or 0w30 and they both agreed that 5w20 is the proper weight oil for my hemi and for maintaining the MDS system and the warranty.

I’ve got 47,000 miles on the truck and it has a 100,000 mile power train warranty being a certified used vehicle.

The service writer kiddingly said, “don’t worry, if it blows up we’ll fix it”!! Haha
The note at the bottom might interest you. This is from the 700 page printed manual, and no you don't have this manual, you have to phone Chrysler to get it.

It is also possible your oil filter may have collapse inside. Try changing it, before spending lots of money.
Try to keep it simple first.

They have no choice but to agree. The manual says what it says, what do you think FCA would do them if they found out they were telling people to put something else in.

I'm glad you trust your dealer as much as you do. Mine just gives me the run around everytime I have the very unfortunate occasion to deal with them. "We'll fix it" is not something I'd put any trust in whatsoever.

My experience dealing with FCA dealer mechanics is that they're pretty much bottom of the barrel. I don't know whether it's just due to miscommunication since I end up speaking to 20 year old service advisors instead of the actual mechanics, or whether the guys in the shop are just clueless unless the computer spits out a code they can dutifully follow step by step. And everytime I go there it's a different tech who doesn't know or care about the history of the truck, nor my comments or concerns.

The local shop I go to is far better, and I've paid out of pocket to go there instead of the dealer who should be covering it under warranty.

/End rant.

I checked with my owners manual and it does not reference 5W-30 at all. That reference is from an older ram I think prior to 2014. Also I’ve been going to the same dealership for about 15 years and they’ve never given me any trouble whatsoever. And it’s always the same service writer and mechanic that I talk to before. So although I do have oil pressure that it seems to be a bit lower than some others, it doesn’t appear to be a respect, and I paid extra for the ram because I wanted the hundred thousand mile warranty.

So, I know some folks will disagree but with all things considered I think I’ll just stay with the 5W 20 and see how it rolls. At least I’m under warranty for another 53,000 miles.

By the way, at 40,000 miles I did change the fluid in both differentials, the transfer case, the coolant and I intend to change the brake fluid this weekend. Being an old-school mechanic I can’t leave things alone knowing that they will ultimately go bad if they’re not maintained properly.

Nope you got that wrong,it's for 14 and newer,up till i think 2017 they had that note in the big manual and the online pdf file. Little tidbit for you the 5.7 was originally spec'd with 5W-30,only after they started going after milege numbers and fighting with the government nannies did they re-spec it with 5W-20.They removed the 5W-30 because of the government nannies,as the trucks supposedly wouldn't meet FCA's milege claims with 5W-30. The new trucks i think are spec'd with 0W-20 which is nothing more then warmed up ppiss

I just checked mine and according to the gauge in the display, warm at idle is 38 and 53 cruising at 70 mph.

I have been using 5w30 PP since 13k miles. I just switched to the big royal purple filter which raised the idle and cruise psi by about 5 points.

In the summertime heat the oil pressure on mine will be hovering around 30-31 PSI with oil temperature around 216 F. at idle. In the recent fall weather and cool days it seems to idle around 33 PSI. At initial startup in summertime it always hits 57 PSI after about 5000 miles on the oil.

When the oil pressure sensor was replaced, was the replacement a Mopar OEM or an aftermarket? That could explain a difference.

As one other mentioned, I would replace the oil filter with a Mopar just to eliminate that component as an influence.

Dusty

The oil pressure sensor was an oem mopar unit. I’ve used a mopar filter a couple of times and nothing changes. The truck has had the same readings for almost 20,000 miles with 4-5 oil and filter changes. I’ve used PUP, royal purple and mobil1

^Agree, I have a 2014 and it notes 5W30.

Oil pressure wise I run PUP 5W-30 with royal purple filter, warm idle is around 45/46psi and with the cruise set at 75/80 this see 60/61 psi. It’s smooth and quiet. I do need to pull the passenger side manifold though to machine flat and replace bolts, luckily the head snapped off and there’s enough stud to get a hold of.

I’ve got 70k now, it’s had the start up tick for a while but started getting loud and more prolonged maybe 3-4k ago. It’s quiet within 20 seconds after start up though. In the beginning, maybe around 30k, it would tick only if it had set for a week or more, now it’s pretty much any time it’s set for an hour or more.

I’ll take care of it this fall.

2021 15,000 eTorque Longhorne: for the most part 49-50 all the time, hot/cold idle, running on the open road, barely changes. Don't know what dealer used but I DO know I'm not returning @$140.00 per oil change.

My 2500 is in the shop for this same problem.....oil sensor switched twice, then the pcm and now they tell me metal shaving in the pan and $12000 will fix my problem. Ran great no strange noises just low oil pressure codes. Not one shop in America seems to know the cause. Over 2 months trouble shooting at multiple shops. Independent and dealer shops all come to the same conclusion.....new engine. My truck was one of the original improperly built 2500 6.4 that they have already replaced once. If new trucks weren't so expensive I would be ending my ram partnership. Unfortunately $12000 is a lot cheaper than a new truck. I'll definitely sell before the 100000 mile warranty ends. Took 4 years to get drag link recall fixed properly. FCA is disappointing.
