Anyone else waiting on a rebuilt transmission under warranty? Backstory: April 2021 my transmission started a knocking and whistling sound. The dealer and regional rep for Mopar debated as to either replace the transmission or put a new torque converter. They did the cheapest, torque converter. Fast forward to early March 2022, transmission totally went. My truck has been sitting at the dealer since early March 2022. It's under warranty and they could not give me a loaner because they sold them all. They first told me the transmission would be ready by March 30, then April 6, then May 20, then May 25, now they say July 2022 and they can't guarantee that will happen. This is insane. I had to buy a car since they wouldn't give me a loaner and rentals are way overpriced. Appreciate anyone having the same issues to let me know. I almost feel like the dealer is messing with me. I can't find others RAM owners having the same problem. At one point, they said I was #265 out of #1000+ transmissions. Now they can't tell me where I am on the wait list. How?

Its weird it would fail so early.. I mean there could be a shortage of new transmissions not sure. I would call another dealer and talk to them see what they have to say. Or maybe convince current dealer to have it rebuilt if they are not able to get one? Or hell buy the whole truck back from you..

Hello, I’m currently in the same situation. My 2018 Ram 2500 6.4 with only 36,500 miles has been sitting at the dealer since May 18, 2022. From what I’ve found out so far there is a national backorder on that transmission. Every two weeks the dealers calls and says maybe 2 more weeks. Currently hoping on July 27, 2022. But not holding my breath. Has yours been fixed or have you heard anymore on an ETA?

Hi, sorry you are in the same predicament. I wouldn't hold your breath. I was early March and still waiting. However, I worked out a deal to trade it in for a 2022 Big Horn. They gave me $4k less then what I paid for it, incredible. My payment is only $60 more a month but I have a truck. Yes, my loan started new again but I was tired of the BS. Talk to the General Manager of the dealership. That's what I did and he helped me out. Good luck.

I sorta had the same issue as you but we have multiple trucks so rental was not an issue. I currently have a totally Billet internals 66RFE since I'm off warranty a couple years ago.. cost about 4000 ish to do from Sonnax parts.

Is it the heavy duty ZF 8 speed, or still the Chrysler 66RFE? I believe the 66RFE is out of production, so you're sucking off of final stock inventory, if that's the case.

If it's the ZF, well, those are German, so who knows when service parts are available.

I guess 66. I know it's a 6 speed. New 2022 is 8 speed.

Ok, 66RFE is an adequate tranny. It can't take a power tune, though, and the valve block is too cheap.
You can get a rebuilt block from Summit Racing or Rock Auto. These require a PCM software reset to learn the new shifting pattern

my 2018 has been at the dealership since Jan 2 2022. They said it needed a transmission. Waited 14 weeks, same issues as before so they said needed lock up solenoid, then maybe the torque converter. It’s been 6 months and I am again waiting for another new transmission. Same issue no loaner or rental vehicle. I have started lemon law process. I just can’t keep waiting and waiting for something I can’t drive.

Quick follow up, it’s now September and I still don’t have an actual date of when I can expect my truck to be fixed. They call about once a week and give me a date which keeps changing.

Oh it’s been this long, the dealership received the transmission on Saturday and may install it by the end week. I don’t have the money to trade it and move on, with The prices of trucks today.

My transmission went out in July. Keep getting a new replacement date. They low balled me on trade in value. Keep making payments on a truck I can’t work out of. This has cost my business thousands of dollars.

Do you guys know what failed in your transmission? I have a 2017 with 47,000 miles, have changed oil and filters once, and removed the warmup thermostat to ensure it doesn't run too hot.

I have the 66RFE Chrysler 6 speed.

A bit apples and oranges but I'm getting an engine replacement under warranty and it took about 6 weeks to get it to the dealer. The gasket kit (that for some reason doesn't come with the engine) is backordered and due in this week so I should have my truck by next week for a total of about 8 weeks. 6 months for a tranny is crazy but not sure what recourse you have.

I am in the same situation. My Hemi engine was replaced 2 years ago under lifetime warranty. Now my truck has been at the dealership since July with no ETA on the transmission. I’ve been told they have to wait for a transmission to be pulled off a current truck in order to repair one for trucks like ours. Here’s an idea- how about they take ours out, send them in, rebuild it, and reinstall in a few weeks! I also have not had a loaner truck that us supposed to be provided.

Sounds like our trucks have been through similar issues... my tranny has failed twice but both times was rebuilt at the dealership. I wonder if some dealerships are setup to do rebuilds and others aren't? From what the tech said my entire tranny was roached and rebuilt so it definitely wasn't a minor thing.
