Howdy all,
A few weeks back I purchased my first RAM truck, a 22 5th Generation Ram 1500 4WD Lone Star edition with the Hemi ecoTorque engine. I'm getting to know this new rig and am pretty impressed so far. I sold my beloved 2013 F150 XLT 4WD as it was pushing 200K and felt it was time to get something new. I commute to my job in town but also have a small ranch where we run a few cows. Fuel economy has been great on the 200+miles I drive a week averaging close to 23 MPG. But I had to compromise between comfort & fuel economy versus a rugged truck with power & towing capability. There was not a lot to choose from on the dealer lots with most trucks having a 6 cylinder engine. It has a 3.21 rear end but towing capacity is supposedly 7K+ wth the hemi, and that should handle my trailer towing needs. I was apprehensive of the ecotorque but reading the posts on this forum has soothed my nerves some. We will see how this rig works out when I hook up the stock trailer. I decided against going with a 2500 because of the fuel economy and higher price. I am not big on all the tech gadgets and was looking at a Tradesman model but the wife talked me into upgrading to the Lone Star for a cushier ride and extra gadgets for when we hit the road to see the kids. I will need to upfit with a Ranchhand for up front to ward off the Brangus and the whitetails, some black custom wheels, a 2-inch lift, and some tires more inclined for conditions in south central Texas.
I would like to see some pics from those of you who have upfitted your 5th generation trucks, plus would welcome any advice or comments on the pros and cons of these rigs.
