"Try 18,000 miles next." Is that a joke?

5K oil changes are the joke. ;) The only reason I do mine once a year is the -50 weather we get. If I lived somewhere with dryer climate or do way more driving Id give 20K a shot for sure. with an Oil test at 10K.

Ive seen my old man go 30k on his rig. And the UOA was still good... lol... Yeah I know the capacity's aren't even close but its still shows how long good oil can last.

See blackstone thread for comparison. It all comes down to miles on the engine, if you are under 35k miles on the engine it is a very good report, as young engines have heavy wear. Now, if that was a truck with 100k miles, that would be very high wear. Amsoil has been known as one of the best oils for wear numbers, that oil and PUP specifically.

They said try 16k miles...not 18k. I'm going to keep it conservative and not push it too much. I did my oil change and added Lube Gard with the Amsoil to see. And my truck is over 22k miles now, approaching 23k miles.

I'm going to change the oil filter when it gets down to 45% oil life on the EVIC and see how that goes and then try the oil analysis again.

Any lab report to me doesn't mean much without the drivers report, meaning driving habits, idle times, short drives, ect. Any if not most engines can go extended OCI if they are started and run continuously at a moderate highway speed for a long period of the day. Such as OTR semis, OCI go alot further.
Miles on oil is only a part of the story. 15k miles on a grandma driven truck to church & the bank on Sundays is far different than 15k on a truck that is running everyday steady on the highway.
I use Blackstone too but not for stretching OCI, but instead looking for gasket or seal failures and/or contamination from silica or coolant to name a couple.

Not trying to extend the oil change intervals...they are what they are. I was doing my oil change when it got down to 15%. The mileage happened to be at 14.2K miles. I wanted to see where the analysis would be. My usage of my truck is anything from running quick errands to long haul trips. Towing campers or trailers with a decent load on them. Using the truck as a truck. Far from driving like Grandma....

The reasons why my truck gets bad mileage:

Poor aerodynamics

Big engine

And I like the way it sounds when I put my foot to the floor..... :)

If I remember correctly when synthetic was first introduced they recommended 30,000 miles between oil changes. Now guys are talking like under 10,000.... why???

Keep in mind that using additives in the oil with AmsOil will void their warranty should something happen due to an oil issue.

On the EVIC it was at 15% oil life.
You had 14k miles on that oil sample and your “oil life indicator” showed 15%?
Here all this time I was under the impression the indicator was based on 10k intervals. Am I missing something?

every car, truck I have had in the last 15 years ( 7 of them from an Audi Q5, BMW 535I , Toyota camry, Ford Edge, F150, Jeep GC , Ram 1500 have always gotten 15K on them before oil changes and never a problem) has had regular oil changes but its not just that. Its the filters being changed as well, spark plugs etc. Its a sum total. Driving habits, Vehicle maintenance, Geography everything. No 2 vehicles can be the same period.

The first oil change I did (on the oil that came in the truck from the dealer), I was at 7200miles on the odometer and it showed 10% oil life on the EVIC.

I change my oil at 6k 2018
PUP, Lubegard and Fram 20k filter
I go by “mileage since last reset” on the OLI which is usually at 40%
Blackstone suggested based on my UOA I might try for 10k OCI next time based on TBN (after the first oil changed when I purchased with 13k on odo)
It’s at 73k now and I’m comfortable doing oil at 6k along with tire rotation and Woolwax undercoating each time.
